that could be great but i don't see it happening.
When Shawn Marion becomes a free agent next season is it possible for the Spurs to pick him up from Miami.
that could be great but i don't see it happening.
I doubt he opts out
Miami can keep him
Marion wants money and attention. He won't get enough of either here.
a) he won't opt out.
b) if he does, it is because he wants FAR more money than any team with a brain is willing to pay.
c) he was unhappy in PHX that he was often the third option. how will he feel in San Antonio where he would be the FOURTH option?
That sums it up perfectly.
Marion has never struck me as a team first kind of player.
He might go back to phoniex... that would be ed up...
I agree but maybe the real opportunity of getting a championship could change his mind.
No way he opts out.... whats he on now, $17 mil?
He would be losing a minimum of $5mil next season if he opted out.
play out his contract then probably get his last major contract probly at around $8-10 mil per
Sure, and let's get every other superstar free agent this offseason. Cause you know how there is never money involved.
i don't buy it. he's always said that he would rather be THE guy than win a championship.
to be truthful, at least half the league probably feels that way, they just won't admit it.
i'd be shocked if we grab any names this offseason. most likely add a veteran who can fit into the rotation and get younger at the end of the bench. and that would be the smart play at this juncture.
I hope you don't think I was actually serious.![]()
If he opts out, he is not gonna take the MLE to come to Spurs. But he likely won't opt out.
He would be perfect in our system. Why not try to sign him?
I think in SA he'd get all the props and attention he could possibly want since we are a defensive-minded team, and it's our offense that gets overlooked and underappreciated, not our defense.
He could be a force on defense for us, and his defense/importance wouldn't be overlooked here, unlike in Phoenix, where the offense was so damn good that whatever they (they = Raja Bell and Shawn Marion) did on defense just didn't matter and didn't grab the media's attention.
no, just used your statement as a transition into my thoughts on the offseason plan - which were nothing earth-shattering i am well aware.
With a few players leaving the Spurs next year like; Brent Barry, Finley, Horry, Stoudamire, and Vaughn, do the Spurs save any money?
Not saying that the money if they do save any if it works that way is to be used on Marion, but how does it work when a player retires.
Besides i think Miami will be one of the better teams in the East next season with either Rose or Beasley and a mid level pick up.... providiing everyone is healthy
the heat will not be a le contender next year
I've been a closet fan of marion even when he was in phoenix, drooling at the thought he could play for the Spurs. Cross your fingers and hope he is willing to be a team player which would be unlikely but it's still possible to dream it.
Marion is a horrible team player and a whiny wuss. I'd never want him in a Spurs uniform. He alienates all his teammates, he's incredibly oversensitive (I mean really ... who goes to management to cry that cheerleaders are wearing other player's jersey's not yours) and he thinks he's an MVP candidate. He also needs to be constantly coddled. I don't really care what he does on the court as a garbage scorer and rebounder, he's not a good teammate.
