Their game hasn't been "ON" all season long. It's not going to magically re-appear, what you saw out there was the best the Spurs are going to play in the playoffs. This game was there for the taking for the Suns and they straight blew it twice. If they are smart they will figure out how to defend the 3pt play, or just foul in that situation.

Props to the Spurs, they played their hearts out and showed why no team wants to face them in the 1st round. They aren't going away without a fight. Still, this was a game they were SUPPOSED to win and they barely squeaked it out. All the Suns need to do is steal the next one and they are back in the driver's seat. SAS is a very weak road team.

dude, this tells me that if you have seen some playoff games before, you haven't understood anything

Oh be quiet

there isn't really any merit to your statement. It's just wishful thinking on your part. Other great teams who've gone on to win the championship have had overtime wins before.

You obviously don't know the difference between Spurs playoff basketball and regular season basketball. PLAYOFF BASKETBALL. Stick to Laker pom-poms instead of your weak ass attempt to squander our win. Its a fucking joke to do so and your embarassing yourself.

Spurs are champions.
Period.

You don't have the foggiest idea what this means.

You never went to a lockeroom after a game like this.

You feel like NOBODY can beat you.

Suns had the chance of their lives.
Several actually.

You MIGHT know what it means going into a lockeroom after something this.

Spurs just took their chance.

They STOLE their hearts.

Entertaining game. Spurs just doin' what chumpions are supposed to do by holding HC, but taking two overtimes and a Shaqless first half to accomplish it. The celebration at the end of the game was laughable for the first game of a first round series. Spurs shot their wad. Look for the Spurs to be dominated for the remainder of the series and in the lottery within three years. Suns in 5.

I think it's a lot easier to put a Game 1 loss behind you than a pivotal Game 5 or Game 6. The Suns will be back ready to play for Game 2, I don't think they are going back into their locker rooms thinking that the series is over. That's all I'm saying.

All they need to do is win the next game and the momentum swings back to them. I've seen enough playoff basketball to know not to call a series after Game 1.

LOL why are Spurs fans getting their panties in a bunch? The Spurs played a great 2nd half, but this game was more about the Sun's blowing their chance to win the game than the Spurs beating the Suns. Two 3pt shots to send the game into an overtime? Tim Duncan hitting 3's? Please......if you are gonna rely on that shit to win games you won't last long in the playoffs.

I really don't care what team wins this series. I just want it to go 7 games and have both teams be completely exhausted and worn out by the end of it. If this was Game 5 or Game 6 I'd say the series was over. Teams almost never recover from back-breaking losses that late in the series.

Game 1's are easier to deal with. All the road team needs to do is steal one game.

Simply the greatest playoff game I have ever seen. The comeback from 16 down, to the threes to Manu at the end. I still cannot believe what I just saw. I'm floating about three feet off the ground right now. Can this happen again in this series? I hope not, I'll die of a heart attack for sure.

Wow...this is one of the most amazing games I've seen!

So many clutch plays! Double overtime!

First, give props to the Timmy! Seriously, 40 points...plus a clutch 3 pointer!

Give credit to Finley for a clutch 3 as well!

Then I also liked how Kurt Thomas was playing...his defense was really good.

I thought TP also had a solid outing! I don't think people noticed but he did score a 3 pointer as well!!!

Then give props to Manu for clutch 4th quarter and the two overtimes.

Instead of calling a time out, Pop just let the guys finish the game...

And the Spurs were down by 16 points in the first half! They were down by a 3 before the first overtime, then down again by a 3 before the second overtime. But they held it together and came up with amazing plays...

I said it once, I'll say it again. No team is just going to knock the Spurs out of the playoffs. A team is going to have to play smart and outexecute them from start to finish and hope a couple lucky bounces go their way if they want to win. Spurs aren't going to just lay down and die. Pop, Duncan, Parker, Ginobili are too competitive for that to happen.

I can't believe that was only Game 1 in the first round. :wow

Correct. You won Game 1 on your home floor, a game you're supposed to win. A game in which the Spurs never led by more than a couple of points. The Suns will keep it close the entire series. This one's going to 7.

They had no timeouts left. That's why Pop didn't call one either at the end and let Ginobili go in for the game winning shot. If he had called a TO, Suns could have put in Shaq and set up their defensive play.

Jeremy

1Parker1
04-19-2008, 07:38 PM
Oh and the reason they didn't have any TO's left to advance the ball and set up their defense and put Shaq in is because the Spurs forced them to use their last TO on the inbounds play before where Finley angled himself just right and Bowen denied the pass to Nash forcing the Suns to call a TO. :tu

Little smart details like that is why I love watching the Spurs and Pop is a genius.

Oh yeah and Shaq can check Timmy one on one, yeah bullshit just like i thought. He had a couple of moments on Tim but other than that he was in foul trouble being too agressive and got owned whenever Tim took it right at him. That will happen over and over again as long as Tim plays aggressive. If D'antoni wants to play Tim one on one Shaq will be if foul trouble. Shaq can't be aggressive trying to block shots in the paint and check Tim for large stretches of the game and not be in foul trouble.

Suns didn't deserve to win that game with some of their decisions they made at the end of reg and the OT's. Stoopid, stoopid decisions.

It must be hard for Suns fans to see what an incredible player Amare is and yet watch him make some really dumb decisions. Those last 2 fouls - the charge and then to foul out - in OT no less! - by grabing Manu after the deflection - were absolutely huge agianst the Suns. At least Shaq was smart enough to understand that. He may have not liked it but he understood that he needed to stay in the game. If Amare dosen't foul out in the 1st OT the Suns might have won. His fouling out helped tip the balance and make it easier for the Spurs to win, though it was a very tough one to win.

Totally ridiculous. I bet you think that an elbow by Shaq to Manu's face is just part of the game too? As in any such game there are questionalbe calls but all in all the fouls seemed to even out. DSuns - 30 Spurs - 27. Frankly the Suns blew this game and I think they know it. That 8 pt halftime lead should have been at least 15+ with the way the Spurs turned the ball over and shot so poorly in the 1st half. Having said that the 16 pt lead in the 2nd half should have been even more. And Amare once again showed just how low of a BB IQ he has. If he plays inder control I think the Suns pull it out.

He's right Spurs fans. We won this game but it was more about the Suns not executing properly rather than our marvelous play. But I'll take it though. If any of you think we can consistently pull out shots like that to win are crazy.:downspin: Don't get me wrong - I'm real happy now but we need to do a lot better if we're going to advance deep into these playoffs. We need to see the type of game we played against Utah recently. We need to put together two good halves. I believe we will but we stole one today. Even coach Brown said so in the post game interview. Now comes the adjustments for Tuesday's game.

Game 2 is going to be really fun. Time to play a solid 48 minutes of Spurs playoff BB and put the hurt on them.

Yea that was the point I was trying to get across, but you say anything negative about the Spurs on here and you're a troll. I'd say it was a combination of the Suns not executing and closing out properly and the Spurs playing brilliantly and capitalizing on all of their chances. When you think about how many times the Suns could have won this game you have to wonder if PHX will ever get their act together mentally to beat the Spurs in a 7-gamer.

It was a nice little game. :)

Aside of the craziness of this game, it's only game 1 of the first round.
The only thing that count tonight is Spurs 1 - Suns 0.
Game 2 will be damn important. The team that win it will put a lot of pressure on the other one.

Laker fan and Mav fan can say all they want that this game was more about the Suns letting it go than the Spurs winning. But since it's been a while since either of your teams have won a Championship, it's a little something called "execution" that allows teams like the Spurs to continuously win in the playoffs. There's a reason the Suns continue to make so many mistakes in crunch time and "let the Spurs win."

No arguments here. There is no excuse for a veteran team like PHX to make that many mistakes in the clutch. Coaching has a lot to do with that as well.

Exactly. Coaching has a lot to do with it. This game was as much about Duncan showing why he's the greatest PF ever and why Pop is one of the greatest coaches in the game. He outcoached D'Antoni and made so many subtle in game adjustments that won the game.

Why would anybody listen to you after claiming Duncan turns into a big vagina and Shaq mentally owns him? Really, wether we won or lost is irrelevant. Before you keep spewing bullshit, you should go back and read some of the crap you write. Maybe then you'll understand why its difficult to take you seriously...

Absolutly right about Suns sort of giving us this game. This game reminds me of the portland game where Sean Dirk_is_my_daddy_Dirk_is_my_daddy_Dirk_is_my_daddy _Dirk_is_my_daddy_Dirk_is_my_daddy_Dirk_is_my_dadd y_ made the memorial day shot. IT was that shot that made the Spurs believe that no team or no circumstance was to much to over come. I believe that this Game will provide that type of mental age the rest of play offs. If spurs had just won by a small margin, the metality would be diffirent, but now it like there is nothing we cant overcome.

Congrats on a clutch win today. Already Dumbtoni has put his stamp on this series though.
Why the fuck he didn't intentionally foul the drive(Parker/Ginobli) BEFORE the kick out to Duncan for the clutch 3 is beyond me and obviously beyond Mad Mike as well.
Hmmm lets see.....we're up 3 with minimal time left on the clock, our perimeter defense is weak, ok lets give the clutchest team in the league a shot attempt....WHATEVER.
Amare played stupid at crunch time which is no surprise due to the MORON who's been "coaching" his ass for 4 years.
Brutal loss today....just brutal. I could only laugh after Ginobli's layup.
FUCK D'Antoni.

Best. Game. Ever.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who sounds like a frog this morning.

Am I the only one whose PVR stopped recording with about 15 seconds to go? I actually missed Nash's shot while I was scrambling to get to live TV. It's now set to go 90 minutes over instead of 60.

After watching the .4 game on ESPNC, I must say it's nice to win one of those epic games.

Now it's time to focus on the next game. If you drop game two at home, it all goes down the drain.

Great game yesterday.

KT was the unofficial difference maker even with TP/Manu's layup drills and the routine great performance from TD.

However I have one comment on both teams...

This has got to be the floppies, whiniest teams to play each other ever.

JVG and Mark Jackson they were equally harsh on both teams and unafraid to call out both squads for their incessant flopping/acting. Easily my favorite guys in the booth.

Still. Nothing to be ashamed about to push the defending champs to max capacity in game one on the road.

I'm not ashamed. I've short-circuited...

Suns can't close. Nash is their only closer, and at 6-3, 175, it's not too terribly difficult to make like hard on him. Until the can close, this is as close as they'll get.

the fact that is took the Spurs to have have 2ot, TD playing a near perfect game, 2 clutch 3s, Manu/Paker big in 2nd half................ just to win at home has me worried

the way the Suns just dominated the Spurs in the 1st 3 qt was not a good site , and all that was with Shaq on the bench

:rolleyes Weak logic. The game was for either team to win. Spurs just executed down the stretch. So if the Suns won, would you be saying the same thing? That it took them 2 ot's to win?

Suns gave up a 16 point lead. They had plenty of opportunities to end the game. They lost the game. The end.

yes the Suns CHOKED that win away, that's not a good sign of winning if the other team has to choke it away

Answer the question. Spurs won by 2 points. Meaning that the Suns could have easily won the game as well.

I'll ask again.
If the Suns won. Would you still be saying the same shit about them needing 2 ot's to beat the Spurs?

No, Spurs will probably lose game 2. Its not a good sign that it took last second shots to pull out game 1 and falling behind at home by double digits.

The dramatic nature of the game does not make it any more than just a game 1 win.
