The video is hosted on a hype site for Best Buy for a movie release. If you carefully look at the video you can see it was digitally animated and some parts of the girl pass outside the rim. Clever, but done many times before.

2.The decapitation thing is ludicrous...that's like saying a player could get his arms cut off by sticking them in the net when they dunk it. Someone tell Vince Carter that. Players hang on that rim, jump on it, stick their arms in it.

Some guys deliberatey try to hit their head on the rim to show how much air they can get. I've seen players whack that rim with their head in games 1000 times.

3.She has her head and hands tucked into the her body, the worst thing that is going to happen to her is she is either going to land on the rim, or else she may get a scratched or cut and get some hair pulled out.

But if you look at it frame by frame you can see she is looking directly at the net and guiding her body through it....she's a cheerleader, obviously she has good body control and gymnastic skills.


You guys doubting this must have never seen the Phoenix Gorillia do the flip onto the rim...the guy has done a flip off a spring board and lands on the rim...he does this in a gorillia costume, and he's got no one to catch him if he screws up.

I don't know but if it's faked they could easily fix that...I'd hardly think they'd be that masterful on every difficult aspect of the video and then screw up something that I am capable of doing.

Now I'm not saying it's not a fake, since I've seen some really high resolution pictures that were fake and you couldn't tell by just looking at them. With a poor resoulution and quality like this one it's impossible to tell.

But one thing does bother me. Now the reflection/shadow stuff is easy as chips, anybody with a little patience and an average knowledge of photoshop can do it. What surprises me is the deformation of the net while she goes through it. From what I can see it would require a lot more time and a much more elaborate software to fake that one. If I could see a full resolution version of it that is the first thing I would check - because it's probably the most difficult to do.

Actually it's not to promote a movie they are releasing...the movie isn't real, it's a commercial they run in AMC theatres asking people to turn off their cellphones.

By the way, this is a very high quality clip...

But if you look at the grass at the bottom of the screen at @ the 23 second mark of that clip you will see the grass get blurry when they edit the clip.

That clip would be a lot more simple to fake than a fast motion clip like the cheerleader clip...and you can see the obvious editing, I want you to show me something in that cheerleader clip that is an obvious edit.

Nah, the only thing I think could have been done was superimposing the backboard and basket throughout the video -- there's only a couple of frames that actually have the girl in the basket. Focusing soley on the backboard during the setup only leaves me with more questions though.

If she does this alot, surely someone filmed another attempt.

Whottt, those claims have not been proven false. It is a very subjective answer sinse the quality of the video is so poor. You act like you would be able to see something that could prove to you that it was fake. If the people who produced the video clip wanted you to know that, then there may be something. But if those people are trying to fool a bunch of people into arguing endlessly that it's real, then then would make sure the illusion is maintained as much as possible. In order to say something is real, you have to prove it being real. Maybe if you came up with the names of the people in it and some verification as to it's authenticity then maybe you'd have something. There are tons of commercials on TV every day that can't be proved true or false just by watching them.

One last question. Do you actually believe Best Buy would host such a clip on it's web site if it were real? I doubt they would.

Except for the fact that what they are doing is physically impossible to do in most of those clips...there's nothing impossible about what this girl did and CGI'ing it probably wouldn't be cost effective for what is essentially a public service announcement....You know why there is a clip of a girl being thrown through a hoop? Because there was a girl who was capable of doing it...

CGI animation is good but it's not totally real looking...FWIW, yes I could tell that the characters in LOTR were CGI'd...I could tell that most of the effects in the Matrix were CGI'ed...they look CGI'ed...and nothing about this clip does.

A couple of things. I used to tumble all the time. We did gym performances like you see in College from any high level team. I've done the basket toss multiple times. That's the name of the move a person does when they step into a 3 person toss.
It takes an amazing amount of body control from the athlete and the tossers to get everything perfect. It's very difficult to do the move with the neccessary accuracy that this move calls for. In open space, she could do the move a 100 times and each time, there will be a difference. There is no perfect here, only a well-executed.

Besides, there ain't no freakin' way that any school, coach, team, bunch of dumb students would even be allowed to attempt something like that....EVER. Chinese National Acrobatic team...MAYBE.

But let's say that there was someplace dumb enough to go through possible litigation.
Okay, I'll bite.
1-The toss has to be absolutely perfect, then the rotation on the layout flip has to be perfect. That is 2 critical factors.
2-About her hands being on the side of her body. That is only normal when you expect to be in an open area. If it was for real, the likelihood that her hands should actually be up elbows tight to her ribs and hands protecting her face. The rim is the danger here. The net poses an issue, it by itself can't hurt but it can catch the athlete's feet and drive her towards the rim or say she bails hits the net and is off kilter, she still has the ground to worry about. The net won't hurt like the rim.
3-Where are the spotters all around the rim? The aligment of the spotters should be such that they are everywhere to help prevent injury. In this alignment, they are typically where they are in a basic half-court open space setup. There needs to be people spotting everywhere. The 3 basket-tossers are primary, but you need secondary spotters there too. Use your magnifying glass on that.

So, I hate to say it. Having done the basket toss more than a few times in my life, and watching it done numerous times with 1 year as an asst. coach of a national level team. I call BS on this.

Oh and after watching the video...They make it seem as if, it's their first attempt ever. No one gets it right on their first attempt ever. Haven't you ever heard of Evel Knievel?

Yes, I do idiot..which is why I don't think it's impossible for her to have gone through that net. They were experienced at throwing her and she was obviously experienced at being thrown...once you realize that you see that it's not impossible for her to have been thrown through that hoop and the video is probably real.

But I gurantee you if danger was as much of a concern as some have claimed...the throw itself would have never been done. Throwing her in the air 18 feet was life and health risking...

So the daredevil element is already there...rendering the danger point moot.
