I enjoy a board that let's the crazies talk their crazy. Why play bull games? People want the debate/argument/joust. They don't want it all nice and polite. I like things just as they are.
I take that back, we as a group do need to realize that all that mama talk does nothing but slow things down, gets in the way. Nobody takes that silly serious so why bother with it?

The search function for non members has been disabled a week ago. The reason is that it was slowing down the forum during the games. Actually we noticed a strange behavior where the forum's performance was very sporadic and it resulted in a lot of double posts. Now since vBulletin does not have a search log I did a very simple test. I completely disabled the search function during the first SA@OKC game last Saturday (God knows there was heavy traffic during that game) and the forum performed without a glitch. I then reinstated the search function for the members and it made very little difference in the performance of the forum - which led to the conclusion that the forum was hit by a lot of searches by non members during peak hours.
The same was not true a year ago, but the database that is the forum has increased by a lot in the mean time and we obviously hit a number (no idea which one) where heavy database operations became again an issue.
There are technical solutions we are thinking about, but the middle of the playoffs is the wrong time to experiment with the forum. We might do some stuff during the off season and if it fixes this issue I have little doubt that the search function will be reactivated for guests - until then I really don't see the problem since this is common practice on many forums (and I suspect for the same reasons).
I'd ask for mediation of the 10+ bets I'm going to place with various members here if we get a Spurs-Heat Finals.
Make a monthly podcast where it the normal team of say Kori/LJ/someone and then have guest trolls and they just go down the most popular post of the month from all the boards. I'm huge on listening to podcast at work and at the same time I can keep up with this sites drama as I don't frequent it as much as I once did.
