Matt Bonner of the Spurs gets $100,000 if the sum of his field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and his 3-point percentage matches or exceeds 169 percent. What sabermetric whiz came up with that one?

    http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/200...ncentives.html
Pop must have seen the bottom of a few wine bottles before coming up with that bonus.

For those of you scoring at home, Bonner did NOT earn that bonus this past season. 49.6% + 44% + 73.9% = 167.5%

That was a costly poor free throw shooting year for Bonner, who came into the season shooting better than 80% at the line. Seriously though, I'm not sure it's that smart of an idea to put even more pressure on Bonner to knock down shots . . .

I wonder if any of the other Spurs havew similar clauses? Maybe Blair should have one penalizing him if his weight exceeds 275lbs.

i wonder if bonner tries to be funny and beat the system by making 2 of 2 free throws and one of one field goal the first game and then just stop taking shots the rest of the season.

It's interesting that Pop didn't set up Bonner for failure by asking him to get more rebounds. He concentrated on Matt's strengths, which is his shooting. I guess this was an attempt to cover up Bonner's weaknesses by maximizing his strengths.

Bonner was 17-for-23 at the line last year. If he would have gone 18-for-23, he would have earned the $100K.

    Ouch.

I hope there is some kind of game limit or attempt limit. What if he gets injured after one game where he goes 3-3 from 3 point range and 1-1 from the line. That is an expensive game

That extra 100,000 would be nice with his baby being due any second now.
Bonner's baby was born more than three weeks ago. Her name is E.V.

    E.V. Bonner.

    Literally.

    Congrats, Red Rocket.
