Do you reckon Pop got an actuary in to calculate the optimal solution for him?![]()
Matt Bonner of the Spurs gets $100,000 if the sum of his field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and his 3-point percentage matches or exceeds 169 percent. What sabermetric whiz came up with that one?
http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/200...ncentives.htmlPop must have seen the bottom of a few wine bottles before coming up with that bonus.
For those of you scoring at home, Bonner did NOT earn that bonus this past season. 49.6% + 44% + 73.9% = 167.5%
That was a costly poor free throw shooting year for Bonner, who came into the season shooting better than 80% at the line. Seriously though, I'm not sure it's that smart of an idea to put even more pressure on Bonner to knock down shots . . .

That sounds funny!Seems like some sarcasm from Pop or something!

i bet yah pop left the money outside the door and wait till bonner goes and pick it up, he will slam the door and lock it throw the keys out the window and tell bonner dont come back
oh my god I love you, Gregg Popovich.
The Spurs should double his bonus then.
Very accurate calculation by Pop.
Pop saved Holt Cat 100 grand.
sweet.
it's not like Bonner spends any money anyway.
I wonder if any of the other Spurs havew similar clauses? Maybe Blair should have one penalizing him if his weight exceeds 275lbs.
i wonder if bonner tries to be funny and beat the system by making 2 of 2 free throws and one of one field goal the first game and then just stop taking shots the rest of the season.
damn, those were some expensive free throws he missed
It's interesting that Pop didn't set up Bonner for failure by asking him to get more rebounds. He concentrated on Matt's strengths, which is his shooting. I guess this was an attempt to cover up Bonner's weaknesses by maximizing his strengths.
aka, good coaching.![]()
Will someone please tell me where Matt Bonner lives? I would love to personally deliver ALL of my money to his door...
lets have somehting similar for Ian:
if he averages fewer than 7 fouls per game, he gets a plate of french fries!
I guarantee you Blair's contract will have a weight clause in it.
Best contract bonus idea ever
Bonner was 17-for-23 at the line last year. If he would have gone 18-for-23, he would have earned the $100K.
Ouch.
I hope there is some kind of game limit or attempt limit. What if he gets injured after one game where he goes 3-3 from 3 point range and 1-1 from the line. That is an expensive game
Just goes to show, who knows what crazy crap is in these contracts.
Bonner's baby was born more than three weeks ago. Her name is E.V.
E.V. Bonner.
Literally.
Congrats, Red Rocket.
Lol missed by 1.5%, now that is seriously some CIA pop .
