And the most accurate passer in NFL history. This isn't a bold statement and I've watched Rivers since his NCSU days. He's the best QB drafted in 04. One thing I've learned is that with Rivers it doesn't matter who you play, you ALWAYS have a chance to win, (evidenced by the 3OT game against Ohio State). It's a shame success is measured on rings because Rivers is far better than ELi and Big Ben.. But like Dan Marino, he will be forgotten in history. When Rivers was in his prime, they focused on LT too much. Now they have him throwing 65 times

The man is underrated as .

Great QB, tough as nails ... but let's not get crazy. Marino is far from forgotten but Rivers at least needs to make the Super Bowl ...to cement his legacy.

he's awesome, but he's not even top 5 since he was drafted and probably wont make the HOF unless he adds hardware, which is unlikely

brady/manning/rodgers/brees/ben are all squarely ahead of him

and lol at "dan marino is forgotten in history"

He has the championships in a team game, but is easily worse than Rivers.

Objectively, I think Rivers will be remembered as a Rich Gannon, Steve McNair, Warren Moon type - really good quarterbacks without the resume to be an "all-time great." A lot of it isn't his fault: he's been saddled with terrible ownership, an inept front office and piss-poor coaching his whole career, and he hasn't had a real supporting cast since 2009. But he's also choked a lot in clutch moments, whether it's his brainfart against the Packers yesterday, his fumble against the Chiefs on Halloween, etc. He leads the league in interceptions on game-winning drive attempts since 2004. He also lobbied to save Norv's job a couple times, so he's partially to blame for the coaching.

Also, "Dan Marino has been forgotten in history" rivals " Newton > Joe Montana" and "LeBron is the new T-Mac" as OP's tiest take

Basically he's the AFC version of Romo with less injuries

id say rivers > romo tbh, but romo also gets a lot of criticism due to being on the cowboys

    unusually solid, non-trolling post

but he did have one of the GOAT pass-catching TE's for his whole career, and sproles was basically a receiver for those teams. and vjax was a legit #1 for some years there

It's very accurate and both had some good talent and did not win with it. At one point rivers had LT, sproles, Gates in their primes but did not ring. along with a defense with Merrimam Weddle, Cromartie and Phillips ...

Romo had TO, Ware, Witten ...

Rivers has had a bit more playoff success though ...

defense anchored by jamal williams, igor olshansky, they were a really talented club

Gannon for the short time he was starting was as good as there was in the league at that time... but he didn't have a long enough window to be up there with the greats

So what he occasionally chokes in the odd regular season game, he's usually incredibly clutch throughout fourth quarters, or at least his stats say so. Has he ever choked in the playoffs? Ain't his fault Marlon McCree happened, and Nate Kaeding, and LT 'injury'.

Way over 1/2 is Rivers "portion" of the moronic decision to retain Norv.
While some teams and tv shows do not let their stars have say, many teams do.
Rivers i would venture had all kinds of pull as to whether Norv stayed or not.
Had Rivers told the Scamosses "I just can't play under Norv. He is a nice guy, but lets let him go where he is a fit like at a Texas Christian high school."

Wonder how much if any Rivers had a say so in obtaining Norv.
    That was criminal.

LT was declining before sproles even sniffed his prime. At best, Weddle might have been a rookie and not good at the end of LT's prime and that was also the last year of merriman productivity(he only had 3 good years) because of the ing ans.

The Hall of Fame is full of QB;s who never won a championship, so forget that.

After this season Rivers will be among the top 10 All Time in TD passes. He's broke and breaking all of Hall of Famer Dan Fouts team records. After next season Rivers will be in with the extreme elite with TD passes.

As far as Big Ben vs Rivers goes, he is right there with Rivers stat wise and does have those SB exploits, so he would get the nod as the more accompolished. Nobody cares about supporting cast or lack of one, that's a total non factor.

The top 25 All Time QB's, taking into consideration everything.

    No particular order.

    Joe Montana...ND/Niners
    Tom Brady...Mich/Pats
    Peyton Manning...Tenn/Colts
    Otto Graham...NW/Browns
    Aaron Rodgers...Cal/Packers
    Dan Marino...Pitt/Dolphins
    John Elway..Stanford/Colts
    Drew Brees...Purdue/Saints
    Brett Favre..So. Miss/Packers
    John Unitas...Louisville/Colts
    Steve Young...BYU/Niners
    Fran Tarkenton....Georgia/Vikes
    Roger Staubach...Navy/Cowboys
    Warren Moon...Washington/Oilers
    Big Ben...Miami Ohio/Steelers
    Philip Rivers....North Carolina/Chargers
    Troy Aikman...UCLA/Cowboys
    Eli Manning...Ole Miss/Giants
    Tony Romo...Eastern Illinois/Cowboys
    Kurt Warner.....Rams
    Jim Kelly...Miami/Bills
    Dan Fouts...Oregon/Chargers
    Vinny Testerverde...Miami/Buc's
    Y.A. tle...LSU/Giants
    Sonny Jurgenson...Duke/Redskins
    Kenny Stabler...Alabama/Raiders

Having seen all those play many times with the exception of Otto Graham, I put Rivers in the top 15, he's that good. Rivers with Duper/Clayton, Rice/Taylor, ...Winslow/Jefferson/Joiner/Chandler like Fouts.

    Deserve mention....

    Terry Bradshaw
    Len Dawson
    Bob Griese
    "Slingin' " Sammy Baugh
