Sooo... Westbrook is from LA... even went to UCLA during college.... Hard to think he would sign with the Lakers as Lakers suck but what if he joins the Clippers team? What if the Clippers release Chris Paul? Do you guys think we have a good chance on landing him if such scenario occurs?

When Westbrook becomes a free agent.. theres only 2 teams in my mind he will want to join.... and thats either the Clippers or Spurs. He wants a ring and wants to win one before Durant does im sure.

    Thoughts?

IF Paul exercises his ETO, he will be a free agent next summer. If that happens the cap will be at about 102-105 millions, and the Spurs would have to unload Tony or Pau, considering Manu retires, in order to have the space to offer a max contract.
So unless he forces the Clip´s hand on a sign and trade or a straight up trade it is very difficult to happen.

There is a legit chance for us to land him if he takes the player option and enters free agency in 2017-18, by that point Tony´s albatross will be off the books and so will Pau. We will have room to offer a max contract to CP3 and also bring add someone else.

Would be a great mentor to DeJounte.

If Golden State wins this year I see the Clippers breaking things up. So, uh... maybe.

So if the Warriors don't win, the Clippers will stay together? That's like saying the Spurs will blow things up if GS wins.

CP3 will likely settle for a backup role with the Cavs.

    He wants a ring.

Lol, why do we want these perennial losers in SA? These guys have found ways to choke in the playoffs I didn't even know existed.

Never too early to start dreaming. Chris Paul is a better option that Westbrook. There is absolute zero chance Westbrook and Pop will ever work together.

Spurs going after Paul will force them into a desperate win now mode. Paul will be 32 but his skillset ages pretty well. He has the court vision, passing, and shooting skills to be effective as he ages. Nash stayed effective for a while. Paul will definitely decline on defense though since he's below average height.

I don't think the Spurs will go after either Paul or Westbrook. They'll keep Parker and hope Murray develops fast enough. Spurs will probably go after a back up big like Gibson or even Splitter if Dedmon and Bertans turn out to be busts (decent probability).

What kind of logic is the Clippers blowing things up because the Warriors win the championship? Like the Clips have been so close to winning championships in the past.

True, but there's a lot less mileage on those tires. Tony has probably played 2-3 seasons more than Paul based solely on playoffs alone.

This makes me think of that chris paul turnover which turned into a gary neal three to win the game. Insane choking.

Well if we are talking dream scenarios we get Westbrook on the one year rental because he wants to spite the Dubs and forces the trade to SA, however even if we do ring with him, he will bolt because Pop and Westbrook isn't a combination that can last for long. Russell goes to the Clips and CP3 heads to the defending NBA champs that just lost their PG, lol. Stranger things have happened.

CP3 is not going back to a smaller market scenario. He'll super team with Lebron before he does that.

AAAANNNNNDDDD...Paul can shoot the 3 and pass well. His loss of a step isn't nearly as devastating to his game as Parker's.

exactly this, CP3's game ages well, Parkers falls off a cliff.

Exactly right. Tony (like Westbrook, tbh) is a slashing-type guard who makes his hay getting to the paint and hitting layups. That style of play is hard on the body and depreciates quickly when age sets in and you loose that step and willingness to sacrifice the body.

By contrast, as you say, Paul is a jump shooter and distributor first and foremost. He should be at his peak awhile longer then. I bet he's got 4-5 max-impact seasons left in him. Tony hasn't been at that level for awhile now.
