Yeah but Iran has so many factions within their fractured society that one would be hard pressed to conclusively pin it on any specific one. Wag the dog tactics, subterfuge, espionage, double-agents, triple-agents - literally any scenario is plausible. Israel could've done it. Putin could've done it. China could've done it. And obviously various interests within Iran could've done it. Lastly, maybe the U.S. did (however improbable). How would anyone know without a shadow of a doubt? One thing is for certain: getting the truth under such a repressive environment is not an easy task.
