Don't grill me. Trump is slime. But they don't have the votes. The Dems are wasting our time..
What if the new evidence provides the votes?

What if it is the right thing to do anyway?

Should good people not do the right thing, because bad people might to bad things? Is that what you are saying here?

    yeah ok

What if it is the right thing to do anyway?

    this i agree with

but pelosi handled it poorly. instead of rushing out a party line vote and then holding the articles to try to negotiate procedure, and then realize "oh wait theres more evidence we need more witnesses" she should have either

    a) just been patient and let the impeachment inquiry run its course, let the evidence come in, call those witnesses yourself, etc

    or

    b) hand over the articles immediately. you can always point to cocaine mitch as running a sham trial, but dont give them counter ammunition for your withholding the articles unnecessarily long when you know you dont have leverage

Or she should have not even drafted articles of impeachment in the first place.

if he committed impeachable offenses its your cons utional duty to hold him accountable. like RG said, you dont do the wrong thing just because you're convinced that the senate will probably do the wrong thing

Gotta see the big picture. Nancy Pelosi KNEW that an impeachment trial would boost Trump's ratings amongst his supporters and independents. She's on video admitting she doesn't care. She don't want Bernie or Warren. I can't believe you fools can't see this. You just swallow up what Nancy Pelosi spoonfed you.

    Not so sure.

I don't think they will vote to remove him. But new stuff keeps coming out, and one or two witnesses could sway it. Hard to say.

Even so, it is just the right thing to do, IMO.

At this point, I have become convinced the Republican party is simply too much of a threat to Democracy in the US to be allowed to not be challenged, and hopefully destroyed as a national force. Forcing them to vote FOR Trump in this case has some enormous political messaging advantages to destroy them in elections.

nope, the Dem managers, and maybe witnesses for the prosecution, will tatoo slimebag Trash's name into the Congressional record, forever, as criminal.

The bag craven, less, obsequious Repugs who acquit a BLATANT criminal with strong public disapproval will also be tatooed as SOFT-on-(Repug) CRIME

there will be immense pressure from the GOP to keep everybody in line tbh, they know even a single GOP vote in favor of removal would taint the whole thing. i doubt anybody breaks rank no matter what comes out, honestly, barring trump outright sanctioning a hit

I am sure the pressure will be immense.

I am also sure that one or two Senators are looking around and wondering if Trump and their job is worth it.

Makes one miss McCain all the more.

I wouldn't totally disregard the vanity of US Senators. They want to be well -regarded in the long run. I also think it's hasty to presume that a vote to acquit Trump will directly benefit all GOP Senators at the ballot box.
The president was properly impeached and should be removed from office. I haven't seen anything that passes as a non-specious defense of what Trump has done. The trickle of more evidence showing corruption associated with Trump, Guiliani, et al is further proof.

That said, for me, the impeachment is over. He'll never get removed. There won't be enough potential votes for removal in the Senate to make it interesting. I want to believe that there'll be the discomfort you suggest, but I haven't really seen anything that suggests that to even be the case. The country made a decision that it doesn't care to hold its officials to things like rule of law, upholding their oath of office, putting country before party, etc...

There is no grey line. No bull political justification.

Just a case with facts and evidence and a slam dunk case for conviction.

Let the chips fall where they may

Dems know the facts support conviction.
Repugs know the facts support conviction.
The citizens of the USA know the facts support conviction.

Go ahead and vote your conscience.

The chips will fall where they may.

Dismiss it thru a sham trial - good luck in your career.
Acquit him despite the evidence supporting conviction- good luck in your career and your life.
Participate in a criminal cover up - dont cry later when all the evidence continues to trickle out in the future and you are confronted with your complicity.

Let the chips fall- the world is watching.

I wouldn't go that far. If DJT loses in November and the Dems win the Senate, GOP interest in all those lofty principles may revive.

just look at polling on impeachment. its like 95/5 by political party. theres no chance a GOP senator sees acquittal as anything but politically convenient

I'd expect that. I have some ennui over whether there'll be any actual accountability in such a scenario though.

If Dems take the Senate, a Dem should give really nasty speech about Trash and all his crimes, including his rap sheet pre-Presidency and gawd awful Presidential behaviour, then read out the list of Senators who voted to acquit.

Apart from that, I can see now way the acquitters will be held accountable.

Dems should ask SCOTUS for immediately emergency ruling on Trash obstructing the impeachment probe, and make sure it extends to materials behind the Mueller investigation.

Problem is everything can be spun. And we live in a time where one side feels the other side is always full of . Everything they say is a lie.. Trump's base has shown this. They believe nothing whatsoever at all that is Anti Trump.. The Republicans try to spin this like the whole thing is about Hunter Biden for sake..

Is the world watching though? Most people will catch the recap on MSNBC or Fox News. I can't watch 9 hours of coverage after work. Fox News won't report anything damning.. They will talk about the evil Dems, and the flawed process. Our system is broken..

bipartisan anger at Moscow Mitch for trying close the impeachment proceedings.

Both political parties are furious McConnell wants to hide Senators from Americans during impeachment

hide the impeachment proceedings from the American people.

he wants to avoid access to the leaders by citizens. During the confirmation hearing of then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh, voters were able to meet their senators in the hallways.

Senate Rules Committee Chairman Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) both agreed that

they didn’t want to allow access to voters or to the press because they don’t want to be “harassed.”
