There's no way the Iraq invasion by the United States for big oil can be considered a victory since you'd be stabilized the middle East and even Europe for decades
Iraq didn’t really destabilize Europe and the Middle East wasn’t stable to begin with... it was a big expense with no real net gain, so clearly wasn’t worth it.

Like Vietnam, the effort didn't match the goal. What was nearing 20 years of conflict could have ended in 20 days if the US tried - but war is business.

We all should be happy to out of the ME, tbh

Question: do you believe the US, given no obstruction from congress, can't wipe out Afghanistan in conventional war with few losses?

The old man should have brought them all home day 1, (as surmised.)

He says going out to Dover, AFB as they arrive is the worst thing he's ever seen...parents crawling over the caskets, the screaming & yelling...

...but, not quite (worst) enough to bring the children home.

with bombs? boots on the ground?

how are you going to kill all “resistance” in an mountanous area of 250,000 square miles, hundreds of thousands of tunnels and caves and 40 million people?

    still scifi/fantasy

maybe in a hollywood movie your scenario of winning in Afghanistan in 20 days would be believable (I doubt it and the movie would be on the level of Hot Shots Part Deux)

You're kind of overestimating Afghanistan or thinking I'm including guerillas in sand huts drawing it out. A nation weaker than gulf War Iraq wouldn't have any form of organized resistance several weeks latee if the US let loose.

The whole point of me asking was to see if you were comparing this to Vietnam for the right reasons. It's similar, but not because the enemy was strong - rather the effort wasn't there.

Just like with the stock market, you're drawing false conclusions. What's your nationality anyways, you don't seem to like the US much

you still havent explained how we would beat the Taliban in 20 days

how many planes? where will your airbase be from? how much bombing? where? how many boots on the ground? how will such operation in a land locked country thousands of miles away would happen?

its fun to play Call of Duty from the confines of our couches but at some
point we have to realize Terminator 5 aint happenning in real life

I'd leave that to the armchair generals, just like you should leave stocks to the armchair day traders

We both know this will result in me citing the few months it took to fully subdue Iraq and you citing terrain or defaulting to guerrilla fighting. There's nothing there, but you've avoided two questions so far. What's your nationality, hater?

Except that's exactly how the Taliban managed to get back where they were in 2001.

Also, the us has bombed Afghanistan more in the past 3 years than in the first 3. Vietnam is to this day the most bombed country in history. What exactly do you mean by more effort?

wow did not know you were so ignorant on world affairs

you cannot seriously compare the Gulf War to Afghanistan. Saddam had a standing army that literally had bright uniforms so US could easily shoot on the bright desert. Not to mention US had massive bases in Saudi, Qatar and Jordan that were a 1/2 hour flight from the battlefield. not to mention we had our entire Navy stationed on Iraqi coast

have you even located Afghanistan on the map? its a landlocked massive country that is far away from any US base not to mention the US Navy

not to mention its surrounded by massive countries not too friendly to USA like Russia, Iran and Pakistan. Not to mention Taliban do not wear bright uniforms and do not parade on the desert but have hideouts in the mountains connected by networks of tunnels (similar to bietnam)

go back to playing Call Of Duty ma niga

    We aren't leaving Afghanistan.

Few indications that this brokered deal will actually stick so far.

Taliban have taken to kidnapping people to use as hostages so they can trade for their fighters.
