I had many of the same questions Viva did and I'd have to say its because the media does such a piss poor job of explaining just whayt those WHO codes mean and instead uses it to drive sensationalism.

That being said when there is this much worry over the disease there is likely a good reason for it even if I don't completely understand it. Words like Pandemic sound a lot worse than they actually are, but that doesn't mean they're not realy ty situatoins.

My understanding is that the mutations of this current flu could be much worse in the next flu season. Let's hope folks don't blow it of because of the media's extended freak out this time around.

IMO it's a big deal because all it takes is a virus that is lethal to most humans and resistant to drugs. This virus obviously looks like it's neither. But all it takes is 1 virus like this and we are pretty much done.

So IMO this pandemic bull is just preparation and practice for THE BIG ONE

Senate Democratic leaders bowed to Collins in the process of crafting their chamber's version of the stimulus. In doing so, they eliminated more than 80 percent of the modest amount of money that had been allocated for pandemic preparedness -- and all of the money that would have helped emergency services.

Collins played politics with public health, and the economic recovery. That makes her about as bad a player as you will find in a town full of bad players.

But Senate Democrats bent to her demands. That makes them, at the very least, complicit in the weakening of what needed to be a muscular plan.

The bottom line is that there were no heroes in either party on the Senate side of the ugly process that ridiculed and then eliminated pandemic preparedness funding.

...which a majority Democratic Congress passed and Obama signed into law. No heroes here. Just another gruesome day at the sausage plant.
