Why are you still trying to downplay this by comparing it to the flu, Darrin?
Nothing wrong with comparing to last pandemics. 1957 and 1968 were novel flu strains.

You can listen to this, starting at 8:30. The whole interview is pretty good, tho.

    Thank you for your replies.

Maybe you could reply to these:

I think he listens to experts that inform his decisions. Were his experts wrong?
    No, Darrin.

I don't think these people were wrong. I think regardless of the actual source, there was a danger in Wuhan.

Two years before the novel coronavirus pandemic upended the world, U.S. Embassy officials visited a Chinese research facility in the city of Wuhan several times and sent two official warnings back to Washington about inadequate safety at the lab, which was conducting risky studies on coronaviruses from bats.

I don't think this Feb. 23 memo with information from experts was wrong.

Trump supporters are willing to die to reopen economy:

‘When it’s my time to go, God’s going to call me home’

Trump supporters are sparking a “protest movement” against social distancing restrictions aimed at forcing governors to reopen their economies at a time when tens of thousands of Americans have died from the virus in the span of just one month.

Ashley Smith, who founded an anti-social distancing group called “ReopenNC,” said that she wasn’t worried about dying as long as it means the economy can reopen.

“When it’s my time to go, God’s going to call me home,” she tells the publication. “I think that to live is inherently to take risks. I’m not concerned about this virus any more than I am about the flu.”

Hopefully it's accurate. Usually there's years of testing before these get approved, let alone mass marketed. An inaccurate test plis hasty relaxation of spcial distancing could cause new outbreaks.

Trump PR Stunt Falls Flat, as White House Video Exposes His Failure to Prepare for Pandemic

The video, which was riddled with errors and deceptively edited, was apparently intended to rebut a damning report on the front page of Sunday’s New York Times that

detailed how slow Trump had been to take the threat posed by the virus seriously.

While Trump was obviously pleased by the production

he pointed to the screen with a look of smug triumph at several points

    he seemed unaware

as it was unspooling in the White House briefing room that it contained a fatal flaw that helped reinforce the central argument of The Times report.

The centerpiece of the video was a timeline of actions by Trump and his administration,

highlighting the partial ban on travel from China he ordered on January 31, and his declaration of a national emergency on March 13.

there was a huge gap in the timeline:

It mentioned absolutely no action by him in February and there was, as the Times had noted,

a period of “six long weeks” after the travel restrictions

until he “finally took aggressive action to confront the danger the nation was facing.”

the month Trump held mass campaign rallies and described criticism of his handling of the virus from Democrats as “their new hoax” — was

February 6: “CDC Ships First Testing Kits.”

    The fact that

those test kits were defective, a massive failure at a critical moment,

seems like an odd thing to brag about.

Utah mother selling social distancing penis face masks raises $56K for non-profit, so far

When people tell Utah mother Mindy Vincent that her face mask has penises on it, she:

Kindly [lets] them know this is how I determine they are too close, kindly back the f*** up.

That's what Vincent said in a Facebook post featuring a selfie with her mask. It quickly went viral with more than 413,000 shares.

It's her creative way to keep people at a safe distance -- far enough away to not notice the penises on her face mask.

Folks from across the country were reaching out to Vincent to see how they can get their own penis mask.

We have about 2.5k deaths right now. Assuming a slow 4 day doubling time for deaths (I think it'll be faster), in ~3 weeks we hit 150k dead. Thats why Fauci's numbers seem appropriate.
Your posting frequency in this thread has tracked down perfectly in line with modeled death projections

Spreads easily and silently. Damages multiple organ. Kills and leaves long term damage. Diagnostic tests for infection have many false negatives. Patient diagnostic tests go from positive to negative to positive. Antibody tests for immunity fail to detect antibodies in nearly 10% of patients when present and give false positives. Uncertain if antibodies equate to immunity or if so if immunity persist. This is one miserable virus.

Great! so the mortality rate is even lower then, considering there's so many false negatives walking around.

Also @ "long term damage". How can anybody verify long term damage for a virus that just now popped up on our radar? Somebody needs to take a step or two away from the ledge tbh imho

while we struggle with basic tests... Iran playing 4D chess

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has unveiled a new technology that enables the detection and diagnosis of the new coronavirus within a 100-meter radius in just seconds.

The technology was inaugurated in Tehran on Wednesday, in the presence of Major General Hossein Salami, the chief commander of the elite IRGC force, which has joined the countrywide battle against the viral outbreak along with other ranks of the Armed Forces, IRNA reported.

No let's count it. Should Peter Navarro take over pandemic response from the NIH and CDC?
