    yup

seems 160k was a lowball figure

the worst case scenario was probably > 500k

    they lied again
I just don't see any way we don't hit that 60000 figure by next month. So much for that.

Btw, does anyone here still trust the model of 50000 deaths by August? We're already closing in on 40k fast while Governors are discussing re-opening, and it's just the middle of April.
    50K in August?

we are 30K+ now (under counted by 50%, search "TPM excess deaths"), very probably not yet reached national peak, with plenty of red/slave states not ramped up, now with 90+ days to go? sounds way off

while some can die quickly, typical time to death 2 to 8 weeks

I never trusted it myself, but everyone was citing it.

Probably closer to 300M, unless you stay home in the fetal position listening to NPR, tbh.

Sigh. We're talking about the last model to be widely cited around here. This is what the projection was when it came out: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usa...amp/5122467002

70K still seems feasible long before Aug so I don't even know what you're trying to do here other than be a contrarian.

Models good now, so long as they hone Darrin's rhetorical axe.

The unstated imperative is limiting the damage to DJT.

800-2500 dead per day for the next 4 weeks
My model is highly confident in this prediction. Basically expect another 40k dead by end of May

    leading from behind

Anything about testing and tracing or is he not responsible for anything useful like that?
I didn't see anything in there about guidelines for locking things back down if cases start to e again, did I miss that?

Look like more happy talk and magical thinking, tbh.

What if new cases have plateaued because we have reached our testing capacity?

    .
Since April 1, the country has tested roughly 145,000 people every day with no steady upward trajectory. The growth in the number of new cases per day, and the growth in the number of new tests per day, are very tightly correlated.

There are a lot of fast food workers making burritos for less than $10 per hour. Illegals undercutting the wage of American workers isn't a positive.
Not making the argument illegals taking jobs is good, of course that's bad. Making the argument I've never seen an American want to do those jobs for the rates the folks doing the jobs make currently. And those rates determine the price you pay for their products/services, which we all complain if the price goes up $.50, much less how much it would go up if a full legal, much less unionized labor force, would force it to go up for.

On a non immigration angle: Imagine how much that iPhone you have would cost if it was made in Indiana or Alabama by a union factory.

U.S. stock futures surged on Thursday night after a report said a Gilead Sciences drug was showing effectiveness in treating the coronavirus. The move pointed to a jump for the stock market on Friday.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up 800 points, or about 3.4%. S&P 500 futures gained 3.2% while Nasdaq 100 futures were up by 2.1%.

Trump Encourages His Supporters To Defy Stay At Home Orders

    he answered:

Well, they’ve been going through it a long time, Jon, and it’s been a tough process for people.

You know, I told you, there’s death

there’s problems in staying at home, too.

It’s not just isn’t it wonderful to stay at home.

They’re having — they’re this country wasn’t built that on principle. WTF

It was built on an exact opposite principle actually. A

nd I watched, in one particular state, where they were — they want to get back.

    They want to get back.

There were very strict sanctions that were put on people,

that was probably the most strict of all.

But I just think the American people have been incredible.

When you look at — Jon — when you look at what they’ve done,

when you look at what they’ve been through,

when you look at all of the death and all of the problems and all of the sickness.

When you look at what’s happened,

I just think the American people have been incredible.
