I feel really bad for restaurant owners because no way many outside fast food can stay in business long just on pickup and delivery, but indoor dining in crowds is a complete no-go while this thing is ripping through our population.
I spoken to many restauranteurs and they are terrified of a lawsuit tbqh

until US government disables Coronavirus lawsuits, they will suffer greatly

The new CDC guidelines is skewing the numbers in a bad way, imo.

For example, Cuomo announced 480 something deaths overall today. He doesn’t add probable deaths in his briefings but WoM does so their tally is almost 700 deaths for NY.

Dont know how that works anymore. How does one know actual COVID deaths from the probable ones?
true, but right now NY is only account for about 1/4 of deaths, where not too long ago they were routinely 1/2 if not more

Are you referring to NYC? Because NY has close to half the total US deaths. Add Jersey and a couple more states and it's the lion's share by far.

    You're both right, I think.

If sr21 was referring to the snapshot of today, and you were referring to the snapshot of the US pandemic to date.

I guess it doesn't work on men with median age 65 and at least 3 comorbidities.

this fcked me up now im unemployed...worked as a casual in food manufacturign as a process worker that makes beef paddies, nuggets for mcdonalds/kfc, also deliver stuff to the supermarkets and other fast food restaurant chains other products.... they are sitting on 2-3 months excess supplies during the ban announcements limiting trading operations inside stores....

a huge problem for restaurants, etc paying poverty wages is that their ex-employees receiving unemployment money AND $600/week for 13 weeks means they make more money, $15/hour ?, off work rather than at work for ty wages.

So even if it were "safe" to work again, poverty wage people would not work to keep claiming $600/week

Still holding out hope I see. The recent clinical trend isn't favorable.

I'm hopeful for anything that works. It's probably not a one size fits all situation.

Perhaps a different treatment is better suited for older black men with preexisting conditions?

those two recent dips reflect weekends and monday (in NY, they tend to report 1 day later, as they use cuomo's numbers from the morning where he talks about the previous day). hopefully as the week progresses, today's numbers will be the outlier

on the other hand, we know the death numbers will lag behind case numbers, and we've seen daily new cases stagnate over a longer period of time, so its reasonable to expect death numbers will also plateau, but im not seeing a quick/steep drop on the horizon, all other things being equal

yeah, its pretty ridiculous that just when it looks like we might be hitting a plateau, they're talking about undoing all the mitigation we did. unless we are confident that we've reached a certain degree of herd immunity, its pretty reckless. that said, i have less issue with them doing it on a locality by locality basis. but full-on statewide actions are probably reckless

we dont even know how long a city stays in "plateau"

500 deaths a day for a city for 6 months is very scary.

yup. and that's even with the mitigation strategies still in place.
