Illinois' governor organized secret flights to bring masks and gloves from China out of fear Trump would seize them

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker organized secret flights bringing millions of masks and gloves to the state from China on charter jets in an effort to bypass potential Trump administration efforts to seize the products, The Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Two invoices from the state revealed $888,275 purchases for "aircraft charter flight to Shanghai, China for COVID-19 response," according to the newspaper.

The state has reportedly spent $174 million on coronavirus-related purchases, such as ventilators, personal protective equipment, and hand sanitizer.

The Sun-Times cited a source familiar with the purchases, who said the details were kept secret "because we've heard reports of Trump trying to take PPE in China and when it gets to the United States."

Pritzker's press secretary declined to give the newspapers details on the flights, but noted the "challenges" Illinois has faced to obtain PPE for frontline health care workers.

FEMA seizes PPE from a distributor, lies about it and leaves it on a dock at JFK.

Once he got a lawyer involved, FEMA finally sent him something in writing, explaining his equipment was being held under the authority of the Defense Production Act.

He said his customers include nursing facilities, first responders and the state of Michigan.

In an emailed statement, FEMA reportedly told the Delaware News Journal that reports of the agency commandeering or rerouting supplies were “false.”

Such in-demand equipment “being distributed internally within the United States is not being seized,” FEMA reportedly said.

Gianforcaro, meanwhile, shared a written order with the newspaper in which FEMA directed Indutex to sell to the federal government “all filtering facepiece respirators, including the N95 respirators contained within shipment number 8994645378 that arrived at JFK Airport” on April 6.


The FEMA do ent also ordered Indutex to “set aside” all N95 or surgical masks that it acquires during the coronavirus emergency for a potential sale to FEMA.

It said the masks would be sent to the Strategic National Stockpile.

FEMA did not respond to follow-up questions about the paperwork, the newspaper reported.

Test everyone one last time and start that big old clock top of the Sears Tower. 21 days later you turn everyone lose and watch 'em go.

Several posters have criticized those raising the point about the feds seizing state orders of PPE -- even though Trump explicitly shirked responsibility onto the states. They've made that point, along with the same needling of MSM. All of which raises the question: Does anyone think the Trump administration is doing a good job handling the pandemic? If yes, what metric are you using to gauge his effectiveness? If no, what's the point of criticizing something that patently seems like a horrible and hypocritical "policy" decision.
