I hated Clinton and held my nose and voted for her because I knew Trump's history.
When he won, I played the optimist and thought the possibly competent people around him would not lead to major fups, but we still would be very conservative, I was DEAD WRONG.
When you opt out, your basically saying I dont want blame. I voted for Hillary and all her political connections because I felt the other candidate was incompetent.
I nailed the incompetence to my dismay. I had no idea it would come with so much lying and narcissism though.

When people get tired enough of this and actually pretend like their vote counts, like they really have skins in the game, maybe this changes. Because the upper 50% do have skins in the game, and they WILL vote. Trump clearly attracted some of the lower socioeconomic 50% as well.
I remember after the election taking my mom to a doctor's appointment and her doctor was concerned about Trump kicking millions of people off their insurance but that he thought that maybe his anger and ignorance was just an act to rile up his base for the election. Then when I mentioned how Roy Cohn was Trump's mentor the reaction on his face just dropped as he realized what America was in for.
And there is another problem I did not realize.
Trump was horribly paranoid about experts already in place.
So he relied on his lying, tax-evading, corrupt buddies.

It's a pretty stupid and dangerous concept. Trump said it was just jokes so there's no reason to try defending him.

They can't let even the slightest negative go unchallenged. Just admit it's a dumb thing to say during a pandemic briefing. Trump has to be superhuman to them and they want everyone else to think so too. This kind of veneration is reserved for Stalinesque dictators or religious figures like Mohammed.
