Trump to Speak About “Protecting America’s Seniors”
After Gutting Protections for Nursing Home Residents
WASHINGTON, D.C. –This afternoon, President Trump is scheduled to speak on “protecting America’s seniors.”
His remarks will follow dangerous moves by the
Trump administration to
roll back regulations supporting nursing home residents,
including
weakening requirements for facilities to have infection specialists on staff and
undermining people’s abilities to sue facilities with claims of
elder abuse,
sexual harassment, or
wrongful death on behalf…

Trump claims Obama left him broken tests for the virus.
Shoring up the Chris- duckian base.
No tests provided for a pathogen unknown to science? Obama isn't a time lord.
And for the PPE/etc Federal stockpile not being topped by Obama, the Repug House controlled spending 2010-2018.
Trump moves — on Friday night — to replace watchdog who revealed his coronavirus failures
“President Trump moved on Friday night to
replace a top official at the Department of Health and Human Services who angered him
with a report last month highlighting supply shortages and testing delays at hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic,”
“The White House waited until after business hours
to announce the nomination of a new inspector general for the department who, if confirmed, would take over for Christi A. Grimm, the principal deputy inspector general who
was publicly assailed by the president at a news briefing three weeks ago,”
“The nomination was
the latest effort by Mr. Trump against watchdog offices around his administration that have defied him.
In recent weeks,
he fired an inspector general involved in the inquiry that led to the president’s impeachment,
nominated a White House aide to another key inspector general post overseeing virus relief spending and
moved to block still another inspector general from taking over as chairman of a pandemic spending oversight panel,”

How Trump Gutted Obama’s Pandemic-Preparedness Systems
Former officials: Trump’s
reshuffling of positions and departments,
focus on business solutions,
downgrading of science,
left the country dangerously unprepared for an unprecedented pandemic.
on John Bolton’s watch, one of three directorates merged into one amid an overhaul and streamlining of Donald Trump’s National Security Council.
homeland-security adviser, was downgraded, stripped of its authority to convene the cabinet.
Trump’s dismissal—and
in some aspects, wholesale discarding—of the Obama administration’s preparedness structures and principles, and
the current administration’s ideas about government—
that states could and should take take responsibility,
that business could be more effective than government at solving problems at this scale—
have left them dangerously unprepared.
when you walk through crisis management at a presidential level, the job of the president, first and foremost, is to develop and articulate the end state that we are trying to get to.”
he clearly wants all the credit for it when things go right.
he has furiously attempted to avoid having to take ownership for the success of the effort…
he wants the credit without the accountability.”
the president decides which scientists and governmental organizations are listened to.
“We’re seeing that ins utions like the FDA and the CDC have been curtailed;
their ability to do the right thing has been curtailed,”

Texas Still Won’t Say Which Nursing Homes Have COVID-19 Cases. Families Are Demanding Answers.
Citing a state medical privacy law,
Texas is refusing to release the names of long-term care facilities
where residents have died from COVID-19,
even as those case numbers soar and families plead for information.
Despite more than 300 deaths in such facilities,
Gov. Greg Abbott has not moved to make public where patients and caretakers have fallen ill or died.
The state’s expansive medical privacy law has made Texas among the most opaque for releasing information about the spread of the coronavirus,
family members say their ability to make crucial decisions about the care of vulnerable loved ones,
or even to grasp what was unfolding in the locked-down centers where relatives lived, has been stymied.
Often, they learned of problems only after a family member fell seriously ill or died from COVID-19.
“When people may have had a chance to make alternate arrangements for their relatives, they were denied that opportunity because facilities were withholding crucial information.”

Anybody know WHY TX's medical privacy is extreme?
My guess the hospitals and doctors wanted to protect themselves,
NOT the Repugs wanting to protect patients' privacy.

So Trump ordering meat packing plants to stay open is creating super-spreading events.
It will spread in the plants... and then to the nursing homes...
CDC still hasn't formed a task force to proect nursing homes.
So... it is will spread... then kill in concentrated places... then keep spreading.
Trump ain't doing about it. They are "thinking" about forming some teams to tackle nursing home infections.
Why do we still not have enough tests?
Trump said "soon".
Trust the government.
So, you don't have a good excuse for why Pelosi stopped wearing her pretend mask, then?
Trump is desperately covering his tracks as the U.S. death toll passes 65,000
Arguably the most important news story this week was from The Washington Post, which reported that
“U.S. intelligence agencies issued warnings about the novel coronavirus
in more than a dozen classified briefings prepared for President Trump in January and February,
months during which he continued to play down the threat.”
Epidemiologists say that up to 90 percent of U.S. deaths from COVID-19 could have been avoided if we had started sheltering in place just two weeks earlier than we did.
Trump is relentlessly working to cover his tracks.
This week, the White House
blocked Anthony Fauci from testifying before a House committee, and
Trump is trying to replace the HHS Inspector General who brought public attention to critical shortages in medical supplies.
She is the latest in a series of agency watchdogs that Trump has axed for bringing his incompetence and corruption to light.
And the regime “is refusing to disclose how it is distributing medical supplies for the coronavirus response that were brought to the U.S. at taxpayer expense through a White House initiative known as Project Air Bridge,” according to The LA Times.
“The administration instead has
allowed six multibillion-dollar medical supply companies that are receiving government aid to import the supplies to block public release of the data.”
the regime is punishing former Trump consigliere Michael Cohen for writing a book about Trump’s sleaze.
Cohen expected to be granted early release from federal prison due to the coronavirus outbreak ... he was informed that he won’t be set loose after all.
a letter “demanding that Cohen stop writing a ‘tell-all’ anti-Trump book…
cited Cohen’s non-disclosure agreement that he signed while working for the Trump family’s business empire.”
Cohen, whom the president has lambasted as a double-crossing ‘rat.'”
Dismantling the regulatory state appears to be an essential activity with this bunch.
"This Trump administration rule would reduce vital protections of wetlands and streams to their lowest levels since the 1980s. This is both absolutely unacceptable and contrary to law."
OSHA citations have dropped nearly 70% during the COVID-19 pandemic,
1. The purpose of the Defense Production Act is to allow the president to compel private industry to produce things for the PUBLIC GOOD.
Trump is using it to provide LEGAL IMMUNITY to meat processing firms that expose their workers in unsafe conditions
“A Federal Reserve program expected to begin within weeks will provide
hundreds of billions in emergency aid to large American corporations without requiring them to save jobs or limit payments to executives and shareholders.”
“Tens of millions of pounds of American-grown produce is rotting in fields as food banks across the country scramble to meet a massive surge in demand,
“a two-pronged disaster that has deprived farmers of billions of dollars in revenue while millions of newly jobless Americans struggle to feed their families.”
“Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is continuing to garnish the wages of federal student loan borrowers who fall behind on payments even though Congress suspended the practice in the economic rescue package,
We still don’t know exactly what’s happening with the WH waylaying medical supplies.

How Trump and the GOP Just Might ‘Liberate’ You to Death
Trump and Bill Barr and Mitch McConnell aren’t just urging states to reopen.
They’re finding ways to
reward states that do and
punish states that don’t.
Donald Trump said “I alone” can fix everything.
Then, as the pandemic gripped the nation,
Trump said, the Cons ution required the states to take the lead and
mandated that governors compete amongst themselves for critical medical equipment and
decide whether or not to impose stay-at-home orders to protect their citizens’ lives.
Trump has declared that the country must be “liberated” in plenty of time for the fall election season.
he’s prepared to use the full force of the federal government,
along with gun-toting militia members,
to force governors’ hands, regardless of the danger to Americans’ lives.
the pandemic will provide the pretext for an unprecedented campaign of
federal interference with state governments, and
possibly the wholesale voiding of hard-fought worker and other legal protections,
some of which have been in place since the Great Depression.

Why The U.S. Government Stopped Funding A Research Project On Bats And Coronaviruses
The U.S. government has suddenly terminated funding for a years-long research project in China that many experts say is vital to preventing the next major coronavirus outbreak.
The project was run by a U.S. nonprofit called EcoHealth Alliance. For more than a decade, the group has been sending teams to China to trap bats, collect samples of their blood, saliva and feces, and then check those samples for new coronaviruses that could spark the next global pandemic.
The idea is to identify locations that need to be monitored, come up with strategies to prevent spillover of the virus into human populations and get a jump on creating vaccines and treatments.
Already the project has identified hundreds of coronaviruses, including one very similar to the virus behind the current outbreak.
at an April 17 news conference, President Trump said he had given instructions to check if any U.S. funding was slated for the Wuhan Ins ute, and if so, he said, it would immediately be terminated.
Days later, on April 24, the National Ins utes of Health, or
NIH — which was providing the grant for the project — notified EcoHealth Alliance that the money was being canceled,

Gratuitous crap, deflecting from the Trash-made Trash Pandemic
Trump adviser Kudlow again says 'no one' could have predicted a virus would spread virally
: White House adviser Larry Kudlow may be the most incompetent official in the entire Trump White House.
Larry Kudlow again appeared on television today to claim that
he was right

but that
"the virus spread exponentially in ways that virtually no one could have predicted."

One can see why Trash employed, they're both ignorant, dumb as .
How America First Trash can screw it up even more, cause more deaths
Fears rise that Trump will incite a global vaccine brawl
The president’s “America First” philosophy courts disaster for entire regions of the world
When global leaders gathered virtually last month at the behest of the World Health Organization
to commit to distributing a future coronavirus vaccine in an internationally equitable way,
the United States didn’t join in.
On Monday, the European Union is hosting a gathering for countries to pledge funding for research into vaccines and treatments for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
But once again the U.S. government isn’t expected to participate.
The Trump administration’s apparent lack of interest in cooperation has alarmed global health officials and diplomats
The fear is that Trump will be content with allowing the race to develop and distribute the vaccine
to devolve into a global contest -- and that poorer countries will be left behind in the rush to procure doses.
In essence:
that the president’s “America First” view of world affairs as an atavistic scramble for power will lead to unnecessary suffering and death.
