This is such a cliched counterargument to the criticism of dumb ideas by so-called "visionaries" like Musk. Not every idea is of equal worth, feasibility, or practicality. His underground transit ideas have already been solved by better technology that was invented over 100 years ago. Mars colonization is just LOL.

Let's put Musk's ideas into perspective. Would you call pursuit of nuclear powered jetpacks that promises to revolutionize personal transport "inspirational?" No. It's just a dumb idea not worth considering beyond mockery. Many of Musk's ideas reside in the nuclear jet pack tier of speculation and plausibility.
If his name was Bob Smith no one would give him a second thought.

Their Starlink low orbit satellite system could be a huge moneymaker, disrupting cell operators. He'll likely face compe ion in this area at a latter date, but the fact that they're first to market is a big opportunity for them.
And satellite internet is a proven concept, since transmitting and receiving signals is what satellites have done for 60 some years. And some regions already have it (like rural regions in Australia). Musk's fanboys will probably think he "invented it," though.

I'm waiting for Musk to reintroduce the climate controlled domed city concept to the masses and throw a few billion at it.

How is Elon Musk's rocket company doing?
Better than his tunnel company. They have gotten some contracting for the first US built rocket, and potential moon/mars shots.

Im sure someone here will be able to explain why the economic fallout of corona is falling entirely on the poor and middle class while the wealthiest abuse the "welfare state!" to become wealthier still, and more importantly why this is a good thing for a healthy, capitalist representative democracy

personally in my area, we have flattened the curve, which is all physical distancing can do. Without the state government providing testing (which to most they have not), there can be no perfect system of containing the virus, just flattening the curve to let people have their best chance at surviving when they hit the hospital bed (for those who need it).

We as citizens have done our part. Still waiting on the other part that we were not responsible for.

    And I'm not a republican.

Well, it was a big risk, you gotta give him that. Everybody and their mother talked about constellation of low orbit satellites, there's no other way to pull this off, but his company is one of the few that put they money where their mouth is.

Right, we've been holding at about 50 new cases a day in Austin. Without testing and tracing that's just gonna go up this month.

I wonder how much the panic press has contributed to the death toll? People are so scared that they aren't seeking treatment until they are VERY ill.

You'd almost think it's disadvantageous to be poor.

Just the opposite. People get ill from socializing then go visit their mammy in the nursing home or they work there and the elderly have all for a chance.

I disagree. Treat patients earlier, and keep them off VENTILATORS!

If the extreme cases are "overwhelming the system", having everyone flood the ERs would be exponentially more problematic.

Imagine having 2 mortgages and saying "well, this new one is 1800.00 a month but our 1st one is 3200.00 a month so the cheaper one is basically non-existent.

You wouldn't say that. You'd say "we are spending 5000 a month for mortgages instead of 3200.00"

Additional deaths aren't ok just because they aren't numerically as significant as other illness related deaths.

How long is flu season, ducks?
Ducks is another one who doesn't understand how increasing/reducing the R0 can contribute to exponential growth/decline. We see in the regions that failed to control the outbreak a significant amount of more deaths than the flu. And we've only been tracking Covid deaths for about 2 months vs. 7 months for flu season.

Is that really what you're wondering? Up to not long ago, you couldn't get tested, much less treatment, unless your symptoms were severe enough.
