If you haven't been to Zuma Beach, that one is pretty cool too. It's SW facing like Huntington so it gets good waves too. You'll recognize it from car commercials almost immediately if you haven't been yet.
But Huntington is king. I can't go to Redondo though without filling up on raw oysters at Quality Seafoods on the pier after swimming.

zuma was our favorite spot if we wanted to stay local and just make a short drive to malibu. but maybe once or twice a summer we'd go to huntington because it was worth the trip. oddly enough i basically stopped going to the beach when i started going to school in malibu
