you'd expect lower death rates. viruses do better when they spread more, obviously. killing off your host too quickly/effectively doesnt give you enough chance to spread. it's why the flu and cold are so successful
folks like hater think a virus lives to kill things. The more things it can kill the more successful in the evolutionary filter it would be. The META virus lol

Didn't a lot of people get violently ill immiately and die quickly in a day or two from H1N1 in 1918 though too? If that was tamed by evolution by natural selection hopefully similar will happen over the years with SARSCov2. Not like we're ever likely to be rid of it.
Dale, what do you recall about this?

Just imagine what if a 50% mortality rate virus like Ebola or the 2005-06 H5N1 Bird flu spreads around the world at this rate of contagion. Just wow!!!!

I think you are correct if I recall the latest on the 1918 as it took a number of young men. But it also had some waves that killed old people less rapidly I believe.
H1N1 I dont recall. Good catch.

Depends on your definition of what alive means.
If it just means the ability to reproduce and make more of itself while creating variation, its alive.
Now the way it makes more of itself definitely clouds the picture. Along with its incredibly simple structure.

I have watched "Contagion" and "Fatal Contact: Bird Flu In America", the latter of which also has a cheesy ending.

Pretty sure the first wave of Spanish Flu killed mostly the old first then the young died in subsequent waves.
