There will be a lot of this in both directions. If it's believed that high numbers reflect poorly on the leaders, the counting method will be altered to show lower numbers. If the numbers being higher mean more federal dollars, the numbers will be higher. Some of it will just be someone being too anxious to follow their perception of the guidelines.

The fact remains that no one will ever know the true count of all of the deaths from this disease. From the article it explains that this person had cirossis of the liver and .55 BAC. Yet, listed as a covid death. People are not going to research this for every death. This is why preexisting conditions matter. This person did not die because of the virus. Only had the virus when he died.

One method is to consider all positive cases in total, then to explain what happened to them. They either died or they recovered. If they died, it doesn't have to be from the virus, but it clears the caseload. Another method is to just look at the death count (this is the method the general public and forum pundits use). Then they compare death counts and consider that every one was someone choking to death on their own lung tissue. Then the trusty news media (should have the term "news" removed from their moniker, and be called "opinion feed") plays both sides, taking which ever combination of numbers best suits their audience's echo chamber needs.

In reality, there are plenty dying from the virus and the actual count is a side note. It only matters in the virus olympics where en y X is so much better than en y Y, or in situations were funding is based on death totals.

I agree with some of that. Just wait until insurance companies increase premiums due to this. You will then want more accurate counts.

    Nonsense.

If for tens years average deaths in the US are within a small range on a daily basis, and all of a sudden you see an otherwise unexplained massive e in deaths at the same time you have a novel pandemic, you can get to a pretty darn good approximation of deaths either directly or indirectly caused by the disease.

You can live with pre-existing conditions for decades. Sure it matters to whether or not the virus is deadly, but you can tease out how many people normally die from those things, and isolate the data. Be happy to point you to a good actuary or two who does exactly that.

Life insurance perhaps, but death total shouldn't have a bearing on health insurance.

I saw an estimate for +40% on for-profit insurance costs in 2021

100Ks of the sick people have no insurance, health care providers will not be re-imbursed,

so the health care providers will start charging the health insurance companies more to make up their non-reimbursed costs and lost profits from non-urgent care.

iow, the costs of treating 100Ks C19 victims will be socialized to all insurance clients.

(racist) white people will be paying the socialized cost of treating non-white C19 victims.

Don't forget to add all of those tests into this cost. Remember that over 90 percent of people tested are negative. But with all the rhetoric of need more test, more tests will be made and given and people will continue to test if they have a symptom which is anything at this point. Lots of cost associated with the government response that many do not take into consideration.

People with absolutely no symptoms are being given antibody tests right now. The cost is enormous, but perhaps the ends justify the means.

Does it? If you test negative for antibodies, then how many times are you going to test for the virus. A negative test today doesn't mean you won't get it tomorrow.

Combine that with 90 percent of people won't need medical attention, not sure where that balance would be, sure seems like a never ending cycle for people demanding more tests.

never. People aren't scared of strep like they are of this virus. Do you feel like you need tested for covid? If so, why and how many times or how regular would you want to be tested. I ask because I do not care to be tested.

    dont mean
It does mean . You pull statistics right out of your ass.

Their assessment found that the ability to detect antibodies in people who had tested positive for the virus increased over time, rising to 81–100 percent when more than 20 days had elapsed since symptoms began, depending on the product. One of the members of the team, Patrick Hsu, a bioengineer at UCB, notes that this finding highlights why longitudinal antibody testing is important, given that a negative result may mean a person had been exposed to the virus but hadn’t yet developed a detectable level of antibodies. On the specificity side, the proportion of false positives found in the pre–COVID-19 samples ranged from 0–16 percent. The agreement between the findings of LFAs and ELISAs ranged from 75–94 percent. The team posted its results as a preprint on the project website on April 24. Alex Marson, an immunologist at UCSF and a coauthor of the report, cautions that some numbers, especially for tests’ ability to detect antibodies in positive cases, may be revised as his team continues to analyze the data.

You should shut the up you low information chicken little.
