Did they recommend masks during the H1N1 pandemic? They're both viruses so regular masks make little difference as far as protecting the wearer from the virus, which you probably already said.
Furguson predicted 250 million deaths for h1n1. What were there 9?

According to you, how does the virus spread?

This seems like a red herring. Instead of playing 1000 questions and "go fetch I already read", talk like a normal person.

But what I think you're alluding to is "they've always done it that way" which is a fallacious argument.

Did you hide with this prediction? Or did lockdow n and mitigation take the death toll from 2.5 mil to a hundred.

Not a red herring. You're acting like the CDC would recommend masks right off the bat. Stands to reason they would have done just that during the H1N1 pandemic, especially before the vaccine came out.

You'll have to explain why they didn't and what's different now. It's your claim. Up to you to make it fit the actual events.

I'm not acting like anything. I said what the CDC did. I didn't say what they have a history of doing. Also, you're changing the narrative from "recommend against" to "didn't recommend". Don't get onto a whole other reality. The fact is the CDC recommended against wearing masks. Had they stayed mum on it, that would have been quite different.

    https://www.marke ch.com/story/th...rus-2020-01-30

    Published on March 2nd.

Though health officials have warned Americans to prepare for the spread of the novel coronavirus in the U.S., people shouldn’t wear face masks to prevent the spread of the infectious illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. surgeon general.

But that’s not the only reason Americans may want to think twice about using masks, one expert told Marke ch.

Most people don’t know how to use face masks correctly, and a rush to buy masks could prevent the people who need them most — health care providers — from getting them, said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a scholar at the Center for Health Security at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

In fact the U.S. surgeon general recently urged the public to “STOP BUYING MASKS!” “They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!,” wrote Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Twitter TWTR, +1.54%

So perhaps telling people to not wear masks led to the deaths of thousands of people who would otherwise still be alive. We don't know, but there's no reason to not use an abundance of caution with a virus you don't understand. This is the same virus that the WHO said wasn't transmissible between humans.
Maybe stop issuing statements if you don't know. You seem to get that when it comes to Trump, but ignore it elsewhere.

Looks like you answered your own question why they recommended against buying masks-- the shortage of masks.

That also explains why they didn't say the same during the H1N1 pandemic. Good job.

There are still no N95 masks for the public. People are using cloth. So it's ok to allow people to continue to socialize and travel sans masks then, but not now?

This is my whole point. The masks are placebos, at least the ones the public wears.

But you always have some underhanded troll working. It's who you are.

They catch at least some of the droplets produced by the mask wearer depending on the material and layering. This has been tested several times. Were you not aware of this?

Obviously the CDC wasn't aware of it because it advised against wearing them for prevention of the spread of the virus. Pretty sure hospitals aren't running to Home Depot and Amazon to buy face masks for their employees. The public was not going to cause a shortage of actual suitable PPE.

Why do you expect the CDC to know everything about a new virus right off the bat?

    Explain.

And be specific. You act like you know more than the CDC so lets see something other than subject changes and trying to make it about individual posters or random groups you want to rant about.

I've already made my point. You gave up several posts back and are now in your "pending question" schtick.

The bottom line is the CDC endangered lives OR they are playing politics and masks are placebos.

I know more about the CDC than you. That's all you need to know about it.

You displayed apparent ignorance of the CDC's current recommendation for masks.

That's why I'm asking you to make your knowledge level clear.

I know their policy. They didn't feel it was significant at the beginning of March. It wasn't their policy then.

    Cool story

Additionally, while the EUA today can help increase the availability of certain NIOSH-approved respirators to health care personnel, this EUA does not apply to the public, who should not wear these respirators to protect against COVID-19. There is no added health benefit to the general American public to wear a respiratory protective device (such as an N95 respirator). The immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low. The CDC recommends everyday preventive actions, such as hand washing, to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases.

So an actual N95 adds no benefit but a piece of cloth does?

    Yeah.. that

I haven't omitted anything. The CDC recommended against wearing masks. Droplets existed then, they knew it, but they considered the risk low enough to not only warrant not recommending a mask, but they went further to recommend against it.

This is the bur in your saddle. You'll have to live with it.

Of course you have. You continue to omit it. If you can prove they knew about the extent of droplet transmission before March 2 and all those tests and experiments were done that led to the latest policy you'd probably have a point. We both know you can't.

Their guidance regarding the protection of person wearing the mask hasn't changed. Thanks for pointing that out too. You're making this all very easy for me.
