This is just part of our first wave.

The way the NYC curve looks, it appears that covid just burned through that city. Sure, they locked down, only to have vast majorities infected indoors. Putting covid patients in nursing homes surely didn't help. This thing only burns out when it runs out of fuel, just like a brush fire.

We have es in the southern states now, because we locked down early and opened early. Even our current " es" are a mere blip compared to what happened in the northeast.
I strongly doubt they have reached anything approaching 70% infection rate in NYC for it to have burnt out in that city. I'd be absolutely floored if it's not back hard in the next month or two there.

Wonder how many have died at home that haven't been reported yet. As far as I know, my cousin hasn't been listed as among the dead.

Ample time to start boosting your immune system.

I've got my mom on 2000 IU of D3 daily.

Take more, if you're some great big fat person.

Definitely been a little more health conscious overall. I worry about my mother too; lupus, arthritis, Graves', senior, etc.

I remember an article about "excess deaths" in NYC in March and April of 6K+ not counted in the C19 total

Yeah, me and my siblings have been looking out for her this whole time. Constantly calling, asking if she's left at all.

She's fed up, but her and many others are going to have to simply stay home as long as this takes.

I think this is spreading by "kids" in their early 20's, hanging out together indoors without social distancing or masks. They feel invulnerable, which they practically are, but they don't understand that they'll pass it to parents, grandparents, etc.

Some anecdotes. I have a 20 y.o. daughter. She has a 20 something friend and a 20 something boyfriend. She has friend sleep over. They drive around together. They don't social distance or wear masks. During this pandemic, my daughter also gets a job in the restaurant industry. Obviously, I'm not thrilled about any of this. Hopefully, my daughter doesn't inadvertently kill me or my wife. I'd hate for her to live with that.

Just had a long talk with her and explained how this was transmitting fast in her age group.

Booted the friend out of my house.

Will socially distance from my daughter for the foreseeable future. Sucks, but oh well.

There's been multiple studies now that put the likelihood of an infected person spreading it to members of the same household at around 20-30%. That's pretty high but it also shows that it's possible to not get it while living in the same household as an infected person. Stands to reason simple distancing and precautions within the household could lower that chance quite a bit.

When I'm not I my office, I spend most of my time outdoors. Hopefully, that helps.

New Osterholm interview where he touches on what he thinks will happen next:
Yeah Osterholm was predicting that forest fire scenario back in March too on the interview he did with Joe Rogan. He was also predicting about 400k dead if I remember right, which kind of sounds conservative now based on about ~150k dead conservatively so far when he believes we're only at 5% total infection in the US (he said that 5% number on Chris Wallace's Sunday morning show the week before last).
