I feel this country is in a soft Civil War right now, and will be for a while. And I'm not talking about something that will lead to an actual wholesale "brother vs. brother" armed conflict, but it's definitely an ideological civil war where neither side is willing to compromise and express consistent outrage for ALL moral or ethical wrongs. That said, I feel "our" side is more rational, despite some of the irrational behavior of the fringe left. I would have no problem compromising with reasonable conservatives, but reasonable conservatives have become the fringe ever since Trumpism infected the party. Trumpism is obviously a bankrupt position because it's majorly driven by white grievance, racism, and conspiracy theories.
The evidence that "our" side is more rational is the response to Corona. One side is following the advice of experts and following the science, while the other thinks masks are some Lizard man conspiracy to control the populace.
