I was in the denial stage early in this thread. Now, I'm at the acceptance stage. I know how best to protect myself and others around me, but I accept that I can't control the behavior of others in my community. I accept that it's going to keep spreading. I accept that I will probably get it, assuming I haven't already had it. I accept that it's not magically going away, whether by local government intervention or by masks, social distancing, and hand washing. I accept that it's just with us and we will learn to live with it.

Good question. I would guess a lot of people don't really need to leave home to do their jobs.
Every large company needs on-field personnel... from facility security to technicians, etc. Might not be the core business, but there's always essential personnel.
