Lockdowns don't work
They absolutely did work for many countries to slow COVID-19 transmission. South Korea didn't need a total lockdown because it was able to ramp up testing on a national scale quickly, it does an epidemiological investigation of every case, it enforced quarantines and it gave everyone masks --- which people wore.
None of those conditions exist in the US.
