The purpose of this letter is to voice, in the strongest terms possible, my total and complete opposition to your endorsement of Joe Biden for President of the United States of America.
I will acknowledge the years you have spent in service as both a judge and ecclesiastical leader, for the hours you have spent away from your family in said service, and your dedication to a cause though sometimes misguided.
For the following reasons, I vehemently disagree with your endorsement:
1. You state in your post that you are concerned about the moral character of the person holding the office of POTUS. The assumption you make is that Joe Biden is a virtuous person or at least more so than President Trump. I am interested to know how you came to this conclusion. Biden has against him serious accusations of sexual misconduct, financial entanglements, and significant ethical problems. There are several women who have made accusations about his physical advances that have not been (nor will they be thoroughly investigated) before the election in part because of the media’s “top cover” which they provide. He has abused his position as Vice President for financial gain to include son Hunter and other members of his family. In the waning days of the Obama/Biden administration, he pushed for an illegal surveillance and investigation into the opposition’s campaign, transition, and administration. He lied about what he knew concerning Carter Page, General Flynn, and George Papadopoulos. Any one of these would impeach the supposition that Joe Biden is a moral man. If Biden’s superior morality is your best argument to defect from your party and principles of liberty, your argument is weak at best and not even available at worst.
2. And what of Joe Biden’s allies? Their moral character is terrible as well. Nancy Pelosi lied about what she knew about water boarding, Obama Care, and the resent Impeachment of President Trump. Adam Shiff’s and Jerry Nadler’s opprobrium during the house procedures, and arguments made during said impeachment were disgraceful. Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib said she wanted to impeach the MotherF__ker. Is this the kind of moral character you think is so much better than President Trump? Joe Biden will not be able to control these people.
3. If Joe Biden were to win the election, he will not serve as President in any real way and certainly not for long, according to commentators on both the left and the right. He will bring with him Kamala Harris, a true militant and anti-American, along with a host of democrats who want to dismantle the Cons ution of the United States – the founding do ent of this great nation that was built on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as inspired by God. You say you have couched your opposition on principles of faith. Do we not teach that the founding fathers were inspired by God to come to this country to create our cons utional republic? Do we not teach that they created this government so that the Restoration could take place in a land of liberty, freedom of thought, religion and speech? Yet, you would vote for a candidate whose party includes and holds up a host of domestic enemies that have openly expressed their intention to tear down our inspired government and rebuild a re-imagined one (Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez). Who are they to scrap God’s design and purpose for the country and the spread of his gospel?
4. You used to sit in spiritual judgment in both temple recommend interviews and disciplinary counsels. Certainly, you would not hesitate to withhold blessings and or administer punishment if you felt someone acted inappropriately or was not able to answer the temple questions. Yet, you want to put in power a party that believes in and practices abortions at any stage of pregnancy, a practice our church leaders have consistently condemned. Some leaders in the Democrat party are so extreme as to believe abortion includes killing after the baby is born (Governor of Virginia Ralph Northam). What hypocrisy!
5. I served in the Unites States Air Force for over 20 years. My family has defended this nation in all wars going back to the Civil War. I personally took seven oaths of office. Each time I was promoted, I was asked to take that oath. Each time I swore to defend the Cons ution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I took that oath very seriously. I can assume you did the same. Unfortunately, you, sir, are voting for someone who is arguably a domestic enemy of that Cons ution. As a former judge, you should know better. As a Bishop and former stake president who has been taught about the spiritual importance of the Cons ution, you should be ashamed.
6. President Trump has and will continue to build a strong military, protect the borders, reduce regulations on small businesses, cut taxes on the working people of America, support our police forces, hold world leaders accountable for their actions which are counter to America’s interest, and protect all the amendments. Joe Biden has no record of doing so and has stated in his campaign that he is in opposition to all the above.
7. Like most of us, I think I am safe to guess that you do not actually know President Trump personally. More likely, you are basing your opinion on and are being persuaded by 20-second sound bites from CNN and MSNBC. Without any of us knowing him personally, we can all at least observe a few things. He can withstand immense pressure. He is not on the take and can therefore be independent of propaganda/criticism from the media. He is the only candidate that puts America first when confronted by world leaders to do otherwise. He is the only candidate that correctly lays the blame for the COVID-19 on the communist Chinese government. Joe Biden says that the virus is President Trump’s fault. That is an abject falsehood. Do you still think Joe Biden has high moral character? While you may see Trump’s candor and brashness as defects, others see these as the unique characteristics that make President Trump the very leader we need today to be able to withstand the abuse from the media, corrupt FBI, DOJ and any others within our country that seek to harm the republic.
8. While I believe that moral character is a qualifying characteristic for every leadership position, and with accusations of a lack of it from either candidate, I believe that putting America first and supporting the Cons ution is then the critical characteristic for the position of POTUS. The Democrat’s alternatives to the cons utional government including socialism and communism are failed governmental and economic philosophies that have never lived up to their promises. They have always led to poverty for the masses, despotism, benefits only for those at the top, corruption, and eventual failure. They have also created societies that have squelched religion and religious liberties. Only a free society based on choice, free markets, and security can lead to prosperity and happiness and ultimately an environment in which people can freely hear and accept the gospel. A vote for Joe Biden is a vote for socialism, failure, misery, and control. Satan promised us that we would all make it back, but also only through control. His promises were a lie too. Yet a third part of the host of heaven followed him because they were deceived. Joe Biden’s promises are as empty and evil as Satan’s. While you are free to come to whatever conclusions you’d like (wrong or not), take caution not to become a stumbling block to those few who might listen to you because of your past roles in church administration, an influence of which it appears you might be overestimating in the first place by taking the time to send your opinion via mass email.
9. Let me remind you that Jimmy Carter was a relatively moral president (he said he had an impure thought once), yet by all accounts he has been seen as one of the worst presidents we have had in modern history. His economy was in shambles when he left office, interest rates were sky high, his gave away the Panama Canal which was harmful to American interest, and his Camp David Agreement was a joke on an international level. Do not forget the 444 days our people were held hostage and the failed rescue attempt because the military was ill equipped and poorly trained for the mission. It took Ronald Reagan a few days in office to secure their release. Yes, moral character is a factor, but it is hardly the only factor!
10. In your post, you take umbrage with mixing politics and membership in the Church. Yet, interestingly you used and highlighted multiple times the name of the church and your membership in it as a reason for why people ought to pay attention to your thoughts on the matter. Likewise, by sending your post to people in your downline who know you as a former stake president, aren’t you tacitly using your Church resume and former les as spiritual currency to buy votes for Biden? Perhaps your real issue is your hatred of President Trump or your desire to look sophisticated in political matters or a desperate need to hold onto influence you once had, rather than to pursue what is good for America. Perhaps you are forlorn for the days when your job was to hand down judgements and you are eager to maintain a sense of importance. Fortunately, your retirement was timely, evidenced by your stunning lack of judgement in both your choice of candidate and your decision to inappropriately influence those you once shepherded in an ecclesiastical capacity.
I could go on, but I think you get my point. You are clearly wrong on this political issue. You are arguably on the wrong side of the gospel. For someone who I believe is at heart a good man, I hope you give serious reflection on why and where you have landed on this issue. If not, take Dave Cavenee’s advice: find a hobby and get use to the fact that you are not a mission president! Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.
