McCain resisted torture efforts to extract information which earned him the silver star. The term "hero" is subjective but to me, that was enough. Saying you're not a hero isn't the same as saying you're a loser. John lost the presidential race, by then he was in politics, not in the military. He lost, that makes him a loser.
