There is, or should be, a bigger picture for the GOP than the next election. There are plenty of Republicans in CA, OR and WA; leaving them without federal help because Democrats control the state government is a great way to lose Republican voters for good.
What they should do if they get a majority in the senate is give statehood to Puerto Rico and DC, then wiork with Newsome and threaten to carve California into 10 different states if the Republicans don’t agree to abolish the electoral college and the each state gets two senators bull . That’s never going to happen though.
The one realistic hope is the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. States that represent 196 electoral colleges have already joined it, while there are pending bills in Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Virginia to join, which would bring it to 233. If it ever got to over 270 that would effectively end the electoral college and replace it with a popular vote, assuming SCOTUS didn't find a way to call it uncons utional.

“What Donald Trump has just done by virtue of the tapes that Bob Woodward released, is
he has upped his own criminal ante to second-degree murder,” Kirschner told Obeidallah.
“And here’s why:
He was lying to the American people about the danger this virus posed…
he was saying to Bob Woodward in very dramatic tones that

“This man has upped the criminal ante to second-degree murder,
and there are only two elements for second-degree murder.
