Building a ~$1,000 gaming PC

Meh I'd just pay $130 for a Corsair RMx 850. I'm venturing you paid about $1600 not counting tax on your cpu + gpu + board + RAM upgrade, no way I'd run that on a 5 or 6 year old Corsair psu if it's not one of the higher end Corsair units.

The CPU is definitely a bottleneck right now but so far so good with everything I throw at it. I'll probably upgrade that and maybe the ram in a year or two when the Ryzens become more available and drop a little in price. I'm probably going to look for a new case and PSU soon since the internal temps in my ty case right now isn't the best.

Also dear God Windows 10 sucks. I can play RDR2 for 8 straight hours without failure, but you try to run the browser and every so often the just crashes. HELP, BB! Why does Windows 10 suck so ing bad?

Your cpu is much stronger than his. If TimDunkem is playing at 4k it won't really matter, at 1440p or lower you'd probably notice the difference between your cpus.

Are you running on a 60 Hz panel or are you aiming for 1080p144 or 1440p144? If targeting high framerates you can get a little less than 20% added performance on average from the Ryzen 5 5600X, though personally I'd hold out for the 5900X if I was going to upgrade from an R5 3600X.

My Dell is 1440p 165 (I play CS and other compe ive shooters so this is my preference tbh) and I'm getting about 120 fps average with RDR2 on ultra, for example.

I was planning on holding out for the 5900x.

I just don't want to play my PS4 anymore, tbh. I can't see myself going back to it. Also, my OCD will kick in seeing seeing every other Yakuza game on my Steam list with only the collection missing. I'll likely wait on the PC version of the collection going on sale first, of course.

most of you have much nicer rigs, but im pretty happy with my results, keep in mind here in chile everything costs basically 2x what it cost there. I ended up making 2 computers, a lot of used parts free or cheap (basically both cpu and gpu, one case and one psu).

for a grand total of 800USD:

i5 9500 - 8gb ram - gtx980 - 240gb ssd / 750 hdd

i5 9500 - 8gb ram - gtx670 - 240gb ssd / 500 hdd

for 1080p gaming for 8-12 years olds, that aint bad at all, at US prices comes out to about 250+150... I got lucky with my old quake friends hooking up a lot of stuff. Now I'll spend the next 5 years yelling at my kids to stop playing and do their homework

There are 7 mainline games, then there is the turn based RPG called Yakuza Like a Dragon that just came out, there is a really ty Yakuza zombie game, and then two incredible Yakuza samurai games that only got released in Japan. There is also a movie, but it's genuinely dog . Cringe-level bad.

So is VR worth a on PC yet? Didn't realize the Rift S has dropped to $300 and a little tempted to get one for Half Life Alyx, Resident Evil 7, and Climb. But is there much else worth playing on it? Too bad you can't get Astro Bot outside of PSVR, as that looks interesting too but PSVR mostly does not.

We have an Oculus Quest at the office and it’s really good, hardware-wise, but the software is really the issue, just like with almost all VR headsets. Games feel like mobile quality and there really isn’t anything with a AAA feel (Iron Man VR is probably an outlier here, but PSVR is too dated to really make it shine).

Isn't the Quest the mobile Oculus? Ugh I just found out RE7 was only put out in VR for PSVR so that alone pretty much kills my interest in the Rift S with Alyx the only non-Skyrim AAA experience in PC VR. Guess I'll buy a PSVR when they're $40 at Gamestop to play RE7 and Astro Bot.

Yeah the Quest is the standalone mobile, but you can also hook it with a link cable to PC and play the PC les tethered.
But, again, the selection of top notch les isn’t that big and most of the popular les like Vader, etc are mobile quality at best.
The issue is that you need to do between 90fps and 120fps, rendering to dual screens, which was hard to pull off at 1080P up until this last GPU generation. Now there’s hardware support for stereo rendering and even foveated rendering.
That said, I think VR is still a question mark as far as companies making big bets on it. Also, IMO, PSVR needs a hardware refresh.
