Game 5 will be the highlight of my life as a sports fan. I could have died shortly after Manu yammed on Bosh and I would have been perfectly happy tbh.
That 2014 le was the icing on the Spurs' dynasty cake. A special group of players, and just such a motivated group. I was sweating a bit in the Dallas series, and again with OKC. I knew we'd beat Miami.
And I was at game 5. Perfect Father's Day.

Yep, it definitely made up for the 2012 backdoor sweep...that was such a painful result to stomach...
Along with the Nephew steal and the Manu clutch 3, seeing Timmy take it to Ibaka who had been bullying our team for far too long was so satisfying...I had been yelling at the TV all game long for Timmy to do that to him!!!
Tiago was absolutely dominant in that postseason run. 136/103 ORtg/DRtg and we might not have gotten out of that Dallas series without him.
Timvp: "fart"
Half the forum: "+1!!!!"
It was great because the Spurs got redemption against Dallas for 2006, OKC for 2012, and Miami for the 2013 Finals. Only thing that would have made it a little better was if the rockets advanced instead of Portland just so the Spurs could have beaten the jackasses on that Rockets team.
2014 Diaw is one of the best Championship Team role players ever. that whole team is probably one of the 5 best teams in NBA history if you ask me
same here. I thought it was over when he went coast to coast and then nephew stole the ball. Legendary defensive play for sure. him though
That part. That was the beginning of the end. Flopovich got worse every year. 2017 was the only year where he did a good coaching job until Zaza happened. Other than that he made major mistakes in every series ever since.
2015 was a combination of using Hack-A-Jordan in the wrong moments, not being able to counter that double screen and roll and overplaying an injured Tony Parker
I am so damn salty about going to game 2 over game 5 when I was forced to choose one. I legit thought there might not be a game 5.
Any Finals game is an amazing experience. I went to game one in each series of 2003, 2005, and 2007.
I don't regret going to game 2, only that I had to choose between 2 and 5, and made what ended up being the wrong choice. Game 2 felt doubly bad because nobody I talked to on the way out of the arena thought the series was going any less than 6 games. After game 1 I thought the Spurs might sweep, after game 2 I had doubts they would win the series at all. The heat of the moment, I suppose.
The only other Finals game I have been to is game 1 in 1999. That was off the chain, even though my seat was all the way up under the upper deck to where I couldn't even see the court when I stood up.
I cried at the ‘99 win. Finally they broke through. David won at last. All the close calls and broken dreams from the past washed away.
There was also a goaltend that wasn't called in game 6 2014 against OKC that gave me flashbacks to 2012 (anyone remember the goal tend on Manu by Ibaka in game 5 2012 that helped give the Thunder the win? Manu was on the ground under the basket on what should have been a goaltend, then had to get up a few seconds later, sprinted back and fouled James Harden for the 3 and 1. It was a 5 point swing that cost us the game). As far as I'm concerned, we're still owed a game 7 in 2012. Spurs should have went back to OKC up 3-2. I was ing livid when it happened again in 2014 (I think it was Ibaka again that goaltended Manu deep in the 4th quarter, but it again wasn't called a goaltend just like in the 2012 series). Everyone on the Spurs was locked in during that second half of game 6 Vs the Thunder (TD and Manu especially). I could just feel that they were not going to let the Thunder do that to them again.
I also laughed at Gobert’s contract but you’re absolutely right. Small market teams are lucky to win a le once in 20-30 years and it’s very likely we’ve started that timer fairly recently. It’ll be a great FO job if the Spurs could reach the second round in the next 3-5 years, barring some great luck.
The TD times were incredible though and that 5th was the most special one and all I’ve ever wanted as a fan. Now I have plenty of patience and goodwill as the Spurs are in transition. Nothing can take 5 away.
I believe this is the literal definition of rent free.![]()
