Thanks for the laugh, tbh![]()
Luka has played probably a total of 100 NBA minutes. How are you guys so sure in your assessment of his game. It's not his fault he can't actually get on the court ahead of guys like Uebanks, Lyles.
Thanks for the laugh, tbh![]()
I personally know stories about the kid being a around town, so excuse me if I never fail to point out how awful he is whenever brought up.![]()
Welcome to ST. We aren’t known as one of the most toxic sites for no good reasons.. Part of why I love posting on here so much.
I came around towards the end of the Big 3 era, but you had plenty of "Debbie Downers" and "Cliff Jumpers" back then. Especially, during the lean years of '08 - '12 when Tim, Tony and Manu were just keeping the team afloat.
It seems to be more pervasive and incessant now, though. Which makes sense when you've seen 20+ years of success and have to now "take your lumps."
I thought that is what people around here wanted anyway, but apparently they'll complain, and moan through that too.
If that's true, you should share it... That's a real scoop. We need more TMZ-like scoops around here.
Treat essential workers with respect is all I'm going to say.
Also learn how to ing play basketball if you're going to sulk on the bench.
That's a take I can agree with. Not overly emotional, takes context into account, acknowledges both good and bad. I don't think Luka will be out of the league in 1-2 years (mainly because another team will for sure take a flyer on Luka, if not only for his physical gifts and the Spurs' reputation for draftees turning into stars), but great post, dude.
Did anyone else remember the reports that first came out when the Spurs drafted him that he basically pulled a Nephew on whatever other team he was playing for? I’m honestly not surprised if luka is another nephew type of
Why are you withholding this....
Anyway, if he's truly a bag as a person, it could explain his lack of minutes.
Rough game. A little hot after this one but like a Gay 3, I’m letting it fly.
My observations:
- Accountability. Pop, if you’re going to call the team soft 6 games into the season, with the 4th loss in a row, playing predominantly the same rotations for key stretches of the game; shouldn’t you be open to addressing media questions you deem unworthy, only if to set a level of professionalism and “toughness” you want your team to follow? Or are you being soft?
- DJ - talk the talk, walk the walk.
In interviews this season, DJ has been dismissive of personal praise - valuing team success over personal accolades. This game seemed to buck that trend. Consistently hunting and taking ill advised shots and letting it affect you mentally...Hope it was just a setback rather than a step back.
- Mills and Gay. WTF?? Can we get away from this second unit, shoot first assault? Mills has been shooting the ball well but shouldn’t be handling the ball nearly as much. Allow others to generate shots for you both. One pass - chuck, one screen - chuck; it’s not winning us games.
Sad that I can't join in the overly negative takes, tbh, but everyone seems to enjoy pissing on each others' cereal and I'm not about to police it, SAGirl-style. It's hilarious to me though, that I'm called a sniffer here, when I originally left that Reddit Spurs forum in favor of this one because of their refusal to acknowledge Pop's decay and bad coaching. Can't please everyone I guess![]()
I got no problem with you personally. I can admit I contribute a lot to the toxicity of this site, but even with that you still will find some good and knowledgeable posters. Reddit is absolute trash, I would love to troll all those fans on there way more than here lol
Really hope you're right. But what is his ceiling tho?
I think at this point, the team could really benefit from putting Walker on the bench. Of course, it relies on White getting back - and staying back. But I truly don't think the Spurs are as bad as tonight's showing, they just aren't running good lineups nor gameplans (not good in relation to the teams' ceiling, which is of course not championship quality or near it).
Lonnie would take the ball away from both Patty and Mills, get expanded opportunities to create shots for himself and others (and actually shoot the ball, since he might feel more "authority" to take shots over bench players than starting players), and relegate the last two to their preferrable spot-up shooters roles. White on the main unit would give us much needed playmaking, easy looks, would feed Poeltl like no one on this team can do, and would also make a lot of shots.
LMA being back would also help the team, though to a lesser extent. But without White, we just can't get going, tbh. Also not a coincidence that we lost badly the first game against the Lakers, then fought it to the wire with White, as rusty as he was.
Go look at the Derrick White draft thread for all the "expert analysis" from ST. It give you levity and help you realizes these crybabies don't know jack .
There is a reason that "senile" Pop and "drunk" R.C. Buford do what they do and are headed to the HOF while these "keyboard coaches/GM's" couldn't sniff the NBA.
The NBA draft is a crap shot especially with how young all the prospects are. The amount of prospects that are out of the league in 3 to 4 years (look at the 29th pick the last 10+ years] is shockingly high.

Have you met Gregg popovich of the last 20 years? Sure he never takes credit for any success but he sure as never owns up to any faults in losing games
You do know he was a 19th pick, right? What's a 19th pick's ceiling, usually? I dare say most 19th picks tend to bust out, or cap out as role players at most. I see Luka being an average role player at his peak, especially with his shooting touch (wasn't addressed in this thread of course, since everyone's busy ting on him, but he swished his only 3PA - once he learns his place and role, I could see a lot more of that).
People just have stupid expectations out of Spurs' draft picks. En led fans, I tell ya.
It sort of is working great (the rebuild). Spurs don’t quite need a big overhaul other than the vets moving on and the youngins taking over. Assuming Luka is serviceable soon. We really just need a PF/C in this years draft and we should be set as far as talent and depth, especially if we can get a solid free agent next year as well.
No problems with ya either, my man. In fact, I dare say that some negativity here is refreshing to read - when it's not obnoxious or tooting-my-horn appraisal of "being right" about this or that. Nobody cares........ A lesson many posters here should've learnt by now. But oh well, I still frequent this forum, which says more about me than y'all, tbh. Not many good and active places to discuss the Spurs nowadays.
And yeah, you'd get banned in about 5 minutes on Reddit. Truly a trash place of vanilla takes. And to think that TD 21 guy was calling my takes vanilla, lol, people just don't know, my guy.
Agreed wholeheartedly, and I've for a while been wanting to revive some old threads from here - now, particularly the one on drafting Keldon. Should make for a fun read on these "experts", tbh.
What's funny is people complaining so much about Luka, when we hit an absolute home run in Keldon in the very same draft. Luka could ditch the NBA to play compe ive Fortnite starting next season, for all I care, and it still would be an excellent draft for the Spurs. But if you don't do every. single. thing. picture-perfect right, the experts come out the woodworks for your neck... Hilarious and sad.
I guess i mainly agree with your assessment. I'd go with that. Still, those guys are not ultra valuable and if you wanted one, probably not hard to get. I don't think we get rid of the guy just yet. Pop needs to put him in a meaningful situation and actually coach him. After that and the guy is still lost in the headlights... get rid of the guy.
Yeah, I agree. I think a big part of the vitriol is truly posters not being used to sucking, and just lashing out, which is hilarious because they're the same posters who were calling the team trash before the season started. Like, what were you expecting, and why are you complaining...?
I'm all for a high draft pick, shaking off these stupid vets, and going into next season as a young, gritty team with talent and cohesion that needs development. We've seen a lot of individual good from most Spurs young players, and it's only been a couple games into the season. I trust in White, Keldon, Lonnie, and whomever we might draft next year. A little bit of luck and good drafting, a FA or two, and we'll be right back on track.
I'll say it over and over, like a broken record - most of ST wouldn't stand a season being a Knicks or Kings fan, tbh.
Think you are wrong in saying it's not his fault. He plays ultra soft in the minutes he is given. You would think the guy would dive for a ball, go for a block, go for a dunk on someone, shoot, show emotion... anything but he doesn't. The guy has no sense of a ticking time clock with regards to opportunity. Someone in the coaching staff or his circle need to intervene and tell him he's about to waste his shot.

What coach does though? I never remember hearing Jerry Sloan or Phil Jackson "take ownership" of a loss throughout their long careers.
Even sorry asses like Jim Boylen and John Beilein didn't take "ownership" of how ty the Bulls and Cavaliers were last year.
ST seems to have this obsession with Pop being "more humble and accountable," yet he accepts very little (if any of the credit) for the team's historical success.
