He couldn't defend a guy missing a shoe. He should've been cut right on the spot for that .
Pop probably saying c'mon its just basketball.....
He couldn't defend a guy missing a shoe. He should've been cut right on the spot for that .
I'm with you, brother.
I want a lottery pick (preferably top 10) to really rejuvenate this team and fanbase. I like all our young guys, but it is clear as day they need a superstar talent to really get anywhere.
That's why all the picking sides (DeJounte vs. Derrick vs. Lonnie) has made little sense to me.
I do agree with the trolls that Pop is falling right back into his old calls of pre - NBA Bubble; DeRozan iso'ing and taking (terrible) contested mid range shots.
All the insults and hyperbole is when I gotta comeback to Earth and realize this team ain't win before Timmy & Pop arrived. Gotta give him the courtesy, respect he has earned and deserves whether he's "ruining" (he isn't) the team or not.
Team will likely never have a better coach, player or duo as great as him & Timmy were, period.
Add Q in there. Terrible passes to the grandstand. Was he just lifting weights? He doesn’t know his own strength?
I think he hurt himself at some point in the 2nd quarter or re - aggravated that back injury.
i'll give you the can't defend part.
but he's definitely a level above everyone else you mentioned.
and if neal was cut then the spurs would've ended up with someone else who was undersized but shot worse![]()
I agree that he isn't a star, but a player like DeRozan needs to be put in a better position to succeed. Won't change until Don Pop is out. Hope he makes me eat my words, but I doubt it.
He sucks but I left him off for the very small sample size.
demar really isn't who you think he is.
He has been put in position to succeed, though. DeMar was on a 1st seed Raptors team and was rightly benched in the playoffs for ty play.
Pop is overrated he benefited from having a top 5 all time great in Tim Duncan. Duncan was the ultimate cheat code for him in which he could get away with stupid line ups on both ends of the court. Steve Kerr is also overrated. My drunk uncle could have coached those Warriors teams while drinking a beer on the bench. The NBA is the one league where coaches for the most part don't make a big difference. I have seen Phil Jackson,Riley, and now Pop all look like garbage during their coaching careers when they didn't have a stacked team.
Now that Pop doesn't have Tim Duncan to clean up his garbage he's getting exposed. Tim wasn't here tonight to bail the Spurs out when it came to Pop's stupid defensive strategy of leaving 3 pointer shooters open. Back in the old days Spurs would have barely won this game with Duncan and Pop would have been lauded a genius.
This tesm has been terrible closingin on 3’s. The scrub bench showed better scrambling to 3’s. Mavs also buried them on 3’s.
also no continues movement. Lonnie would sprint down, just to stop and pass the ball. And we he attacks, freaking missed the layup. Same with everybody, fake, pass, reset.
They have to attack the rim from the get go, and set the tone of gritty basketball.
Again, I don't think he's a star, but he's also not a complete scrub if that's what you're implying.
Yep and he is a lazy defender and mental midget same as aldrige but aldrige at least has an excuse he is old..
Agreed. Pop ain't perfect and has made and been making mistakes but he's still a GOAT coach. I don't care how long it's been since it's happened but Kawhi really ed this franchise good and we haven't recovered from it. That's the main reason we're in our current state.
Wow, what an astute observation. You need a superstar or superstars to win in the NBA.
I think everyone and their momma is aware of that point, buddy. Our issue is that we lost our superstar for a far inferior player (package) and have yet to recover.
They've practically overachieved with a bunch of middling draft picks and flawed veterans but now the ship be sinking. I'm hoping they remain compe ive, end up in the lottery (again) and luck into a Cade Cunningham or Evan Mobley (while signing a John Collins - tier FA).
That would instantly change the team's fortune and shut all the ST trolls/crybabies/ es up.
Didn’t watch the game so I can’t comment about the game but this team is always going to be one step forward, two steps back kind of team until a lot of the overpaid washed up dudes are gone and the team finds its iden y on defense. The treadmill is going nowhere.
i appreciate you being reasonable.
realistically, he isn't a complete scrub. but he might as well be. dude got benched for an entire 4th quarter in a closeout game iirc.
sixth man of year at best TBH. but even then, you want a sixth man that is reliable...
Yes lets sign another big man that can't play defense. Collins is a crappy defensive player.
He needs to be on a le contender with 1 or 2 better options/stars. Him being "the man" hasn't done anything for his game or reputation.
If anything it has reinforced that he can't be a no. 1 option on a contending team or even a playoff contending team, anymore.
Unacceptable performance in that game, I agree.
So much wrong with your post, man.
I guess Mark Jackson would have eventually figured it out then.
Coaching isn't as important as in the NFL, MLB or NHL, but it definitely makes a difference at some level.
Pop has his flaws and has made tons of mistakes throughout his coaching career, but he also got this mediocre (prior to his arrival) franchise over the hump.
It make no sense how Spur fans can say Pop was "overrated" and "anyone could have done that" when the guy prior to him (Bob Hill) wasted so many years of David Robinson's prime. I know, I know, you'll say it was the teammates and front - office that blow those chances.
I'd argue that the mediocre coaching of Hill (and his predecessors) played a huge part in all those playoff disappointments & David's reputation as a "playoff choker."
You just can't put out a good team with the worst defensive center in the league. Blame the coach or the other players all you want.
I'm aware that he's a poor defender, but the hope is with better defensive teammates (Trae Young is a horrible defender), a better defensive system (assuming either Pop retires or ins utes a better defensive strategy) & some holding him accountable he improve.
He is a much better version of the missed out on "God" Brandon Clarke & could flourish in a better coached (in theory) environment.
Also, I said a John Collins - tier player meaning someome at his level (good production, youth & athleticism) where a change of scenery could lead to them taking a bigger leap.
You didn’t missed much.
Pop went away from Bubble aggression, letting the young core wreck havoc. They should attack the rim from the get go, Lonnie had to be pulled because he was deferring. Ball stops at Derozan. He used to facilitate, no movements, people watching an iso play. Terrible ugly offense.
