Putin don’t poison, and Assad don’t gas...
The Kent variant, spreading rapidly in USA, including presence in SA, to be dominant in March, is not only more infectious, but UK reports it has higher fatality rate.
Good news is that vaccines aimed at the original C19 can working against new variant(s).
The acquired immune system "mutates"/teaches its anti-bodies to handle a slightly mutated virus?
This is exactly why governments need to tell people to be flexible as situations change.
What I have learned during this whole mess is that people cannot handle uncertainty.
This is exactly why the red God fit a sector of our population so well imo.
I don’t know if this is a personality disorder or is not taught in school or what?
If ________,then _________ type statements seem to do best with computers and not people.

What are you, 10 years old?
If you were asking a question, and I am reading it correctly, here is the idea as it stands now with our immune system.
When you are vaccinated you will basically produce a variety of cells with receptors that are slightly different. these receptors are responsible for recognizing viral particles and then in response producing antibodies Of the shape of their receptors (for the sake of simplicity there are more cells involved but this is the basic idea) . So in effect the cells with the right receptor shape produces the right shape antibodies are selected for from a range of cells your body has produced that have slightly different receptor shapes.
it is an absolutely beautiful system. our own cells create a range of receptor and antibody shapes. This happens readily because the DNA regions that code for antibodies. there is this mixing and matching of different code that is slightly different so it produces slightly different shapes. For a very long time we had no idea how for example, a rabbit could produce antibodies to chocolate. A rabbit certainly doesn’t carry a specific gene against chocolate. This would be in a mess. Organisms could never have that many genes. So what happens instead is you create a variety of cells that have a variety of receptor shapes. The right shape is actually selected for by binding with an unknown alien chemical structure entering the body like that of a virus or chocolate. Anyways, when that particular shape binds, the cell also produces more cells like itself but with slightly different variations that can get closer and closer to the shape of the invader. I don’t mean to sound like a know it all but this is absolutely incredible. Not to mention your immune system has the ability to recognize self from some sort of alien form (problems with this produce auto immune diseases).
So I’m thinking you referring to our own mutations, that’s actually the DNA mixing and matching in immune system cells to produce a wide range of receptors.
hope this makes sense and as always
tl;dr it as desired ... cell phone voice recognition with corrections is difficult, apologies

Yes I am oh wise, older than Yoda, grumpa.
Osterholm is just trolling now
How so?
Seems intuitive given the uncontrolled, worldwide spread of the disease that COVID-19 would become endemic. A few posters ITT have mentioned the possibility since last summer, seems about as solid as a prediction can be.
Maybe people pay more attention if you over-emoji your posts. It seems trolling and silly to me, but I guess you gotta do you, even if it makes your own posts worse.

Seems like a sensasionalist thing to say now.
We all knew this months ago.
On his podcast he still talking about cat 5. He is complaining about US government giving inconsistent message as if Covid pandemic is dwindling. He says thats dangerous, because this is not the case. Biden admin lying?
He is also self postponing his 2nd dose of vaccine so someone else can get it.
So Osterholm is a troll because he’s too excited about a thing that is probably true? If you’re singling him out for overhyping a commonplace you’re also disclosing a lack of self-awareness on your part.
FWIW, I agree that COVID messaging is still all screwed up, e.g., advising no quarantine is req’d for fully vaccinated people exposed to SARS-CoV-2 when it’s not known whether they can infect others. At least we’re getting more vaccines now and will get more COVID relief soon, that’s a start.
Just commenting on his stepple stone path to the moon allegory. Settle down.
I still believe him on the cat 5. Tbqh but hope hes way off![]()
"gatherings are against the law"
Wow this is not true yet UK home office claims this
I think its time to pull out my V for Vendetta book.....
This long article scrutinizes the CDC's school ropening guidance. It draws on two CDC do ents:
1) Operational Strategy for K-12 Schools through Phased Mitigation (“Strategy“) (updated Feb. 12, 2021), which provides guidance to the schools, and
2) Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in K-12 schools (“Transmission“) (updated Feb. 12, 2021), which do ents “the science” upon which the guidance is (putatively) based.
Some highlights:
https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2021...-concerns.htmlThere are two central issues with Strategy. The first might be labeled its Central Dogma. The second is the action items in Strategy. Here is the CDC’s Central Dogma:
The occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in schools reflects transmission in the surrounding community. That is, schools themselves are not drivers of transmission, but rather, as it were, passive recipients of it. This is certainly disputable, for example in this recent thread on Montréal:

Aerosol transmission and ventilation glossed over.
Politics prioritized over science, according to Lambert Strether
In the process of writing this report, the committee repeatedly returned to conversations around the role of airborne transmission of COVID-19. As described in Chapter 3, indoor air quality in U.S. public schools is notoriously poor, which can have innumerable deleterious health impacts on students and staff. However, because there is not yet scientific consensus on the role of airborne transmission in the spread of the virus, it is also unclear how the indoor air quality of schools matters in the spread of COVID-19. Given the considerable cost associated with updating aging facilities, it is particularly important to understand the exact role of airborne transmission such that stakeholders can assess the relative value and utility of that investment.Needless to say, this is a budgetary — hence political — constraint, not “the science.” Nor could it be! And sadly, by reducing the question of aerosol transmission and indoor quality to facilities they enable the CDC to deny children, parents, and teachers simpler methods of mitigation:
Too high a hurdle for schools to clear?
In the push to re-open schools, there's resistance to prioritizing vaccination of school staff.
This has got to get figured out for so many reasons. Getting kids to school and parents working effectively is huge for economics, mental health, etc... this huge strain on families must get fixed, school is a part of this. Hopefully we get vaccinations in full swing. We had no effective structure from the prior administration so the foundation has to be fixed. We knew bottle necks in getting the vaccine to the arm would occur, but there was nothing to solve these jams.
Imo if we could somehow get this school year normalized, the next school year will be much easier to make the proper adjustments.

There don’t need to be many of these to cause alarm. And Texas teachers can’t strike so no excuses for our governor putting teachers at the back of the line.
