If I was saying that, how does it mean solar is bad? Power could be more expensive and more unreliable, but that would make grid power bad, it wouldn't make solar bad.
It's simple economics. The more users you have for a product, the cheaper per unit you can sell that product (to a point of max production). Once users begin to go away, your cost of operation remains and even if you run at a lower capacity, you still have a base cost of operation that would be passed on to the consumer. It could happen with other things as well but solar is at the forefront of the effect, I think. I don't think people are going to start raising their own veggies and meats any time soon, at least not enough to affect the market.
