I'm not back pedaling. You are obviously the one that doesn't keep up with current events. 10 republicans senators offered 618 billion of Covid specific funding that didn't include all the pork stuffed into blue teams bill but it was immediately rejected. It could have passed easily a month ago.
If Democrats just knuckled under to everything the Republicans want life would be perfect.

    PORK

As The Wall Street Journal has noted, most of the House bill has less to do with the virus and more to do with paying lobbyists and other groups favorable to Democrats.

There’s another $7.2 billion for paycheck protection, which again would be less expensive and possibly unnecessary if businesses were allowed to reopen. When this money runs out and businesses are still mostly closed will there be more spending, adding to the already unsustainable debt?

There’s $86 billion to rescue 185 pension plans, which, as the Journal notes, have been “chronically underfunded due to lax federal standards and accounting rules. Yet the bailout comes with no real reform.” That’s the thing about so many government programs. They never have to fix a problem, only demonstrate good intentions so politicians can save their careers.

Public elementary and secondary schools, most of which remain closed thanks to teachers’ unions that wish to extract even more money for themselves, without returning to classrooms, are targeted to receive $129 billion. Schools don’t have to reopen to get the money, despite the science, which Biden promised to rely on, that says young children are least likely to become infected. The Congressional Budget Office has said that Congress previously authorized $113 billion for schools, but that most of that money has not been spent.

There’s plenty more, including massive amounts of cash for programs favored by Democrats. In addition to Planned Parenthood, notes the Journal, included are billions to defray premiums for the Affordable Care Act, $39 billion for child care, $30 billion for public transit agencies, the $15/hour minimum wage, which may lead to more layoffs and fewer hires, $1.5 billion for AMTRAK, a bridge to Canada (not to be confused with Alaska’s notorious “bridge to nowhere” some years ago), and as the CBO notes, “$500 billion grants to fund activities related to the arts, humanities, libraries and museums and Native American language preservation.”

I have some issues with the additions to the COVID relief bill, biggest of which is a minimum wage increase, but I don't see why schools, pension plans and health care expenses shouldn't be a part of relief.

Pretty hilarious that Thomas advocates for Federal Regulation to be a part of the bill when it comes to pensions and schools. To say nothing of businesses reopening.

Joe Biden can't magically reopen schools and businesses any more than Donald Trump could, but Small Government conservatives keep begging for the President to snap his fingers and make local authority disappear.

The problem with bailing out the unfunded blue state pension plans is they didn't make them reform and start funding them from now on. They will just dig right back into the same hole and wait for the Federal govt to bail them out again.

I'm excusing both your boy Donald Trump and Joe Biden for not reopening schools and small businesses, all it requires is a basic understanding of how government works.

    Sounds like every other bailout.

Except this one actually benefits people who need it in the end.

    Reform can come later.

Look who's resorted to copping hater's schtick now, sad.

I've always understood that the President can't reopen schools and businesses. It's why I was critical of Trump's bloviating about MUH LIBERATION.

The mental gymnastics. Seems you would love life in China.

No one is surprised by this development. It was one of the main points I made when comparing the two. Combined with the media handling Biden with kiddie gloves and you have an Administration not challenged or held accountable. After 4 years of "unnamed sources" and gotcha journalism.
What are you talking about? As a pole you should be versed with actual communism and the effects. This is nothing the sort in US or even Canada. Boo hoo that the media is handling Biden with kid gloves, who cares. Trump battled the media since day 1, what did he expect. You act like a fool and a child you get treated as such. I really hope he runs again.

Six weeks into the Biden administration and there still has been no solo press conference from the president. That is the longest stretch of silence from any new president in at least a century. By refusing to speak directly to the media, Joe Biden is attacking our most cherished democratic norms. Even CNN is complaining about it.

Seems like W rarely held a presser in his 2nd term. Joe hiding is expected but not that unusual.

That’s why they have daily briefings back. What does the media want to ask him so bad? He’s doing his job perfectly thus far.

Besides that, he’s making tv announcements almost daily as well.
