    • “The issue is that we are starting to plateau. That plateau is about 60,000 to 70,000 cases a day. When you have that much viral activity in a plateau, it almost invariably means that you are at risk of another e,” Fauci said during a White House COVID-19 briefing Friday.

U.S. Sets Record for Overdose Deaths During Pandemic

The Coronavirus pandemic has earned the United States a new record for annual drug overdose deaths at 81,000, the Centers for Disease Control reported this week.

For a country that's only surpassed by Russia and Estonia in its share of population with an alcohol or drug addiction,

America's addiction epidemic stands as a threat to national security.

“Why are we wasting vaccinations on Texas if Texas has decided to join the side of the virus?” – Keith Olbermann

    ============

    “Texas—we hear you.

You didn’t want to be part of our electrical grid.

And now you’ve removed your mask mandate & are allowing large crowds to gather.

    We hear you!

    COVID is a hoax!

So u don’t need our precious vaccine.

We’ll send it to ppl who are saving lives by wearing masks.”

Repugs know that no-mask/no-business-limitations will kill proportionately more poor blacks and browns than comfortable whites

Hard to understand them and deaf people can't read their lips.

    And they're OUTSIDE!

Closed captioning is a thing, Karrin.

    Has been for decades.
    And they're OUTSIDE!
Plenty of instances where masks should be worn outside, Karrin.

    What is it hurting?

SHOITHOLE Florida told hospital to divert vaccines to wealthy community as appointments were canceled for general public

A Florida hospital diverted vaccines from the general public to an ultra-wealthy community where its CEO and Republican donors lived.

Some of the beneficiaries had donated to the governor's political action committee, which has garnered almost $4 million, and

Baptist Health Systems president and CEO Brian Keeley and his wife own a home in Ocean Reef.

have asked the FBI to investigate the delivery of doses to wealthy communities that tend to back DeSantis.

What are you worried about? Variants?
There seems to be empirical, contemporaneous support for concern about COVID-19 variants. Until herd immunity is reached, the concern is a reasonable one, don't you think?

Europe recorded 1 million new COVID-19 cases last week, an increase of 9% from the previous week and a reversal that ended a six-week decline in new infections, WHO said Thursday.

“The spread of the variants is driving the increase, but not only,” said Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe, citing “also the opening of society, when it is not done in a safe and a controlled manner.”

The variant first found in the U.K. is spreading significantly in 27 European countries monitored by WHO and is dominant in at least 10 countries: Britain, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Israel, Spain and Portugal.

It is up to 50% more transmissible than the virus that surged last spring and again in the fall, making it more adept at thwarting measures that were previously effective, WHO experts warned.

Manaus: Brazil's city on the Amazon river buckles under second Covid wave

Brazil thought they had achieved herd immunity.

    They were mistaken.

Opening up too soon will have predictable consequences.

People with their heads really far up their asses will find some new excuse why the fascist party really isn't to blame, or will attempt more "but Cuomo" bull when the bodies start stacking up.

the absence of any focus on ventilation is bothersome, it's a respiratory pandemic.

For the purposes of this guidance, people are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 ≥2 weeks after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or ≥2 weeks after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson [J&J]/Janssen ).
The following recommendations apply to non-healthcare settings.

    Fully vaccinated people can:

    • Visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing
    • Visit with unvaccinated people from a single household who are at low risk for severe COVID-19 disease indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing
    • Refrain from quarantine and testing following a known exposure if asymptomatic

For now, fully vaccinated people should continue to:

    • Take precautions in public like wearing a well-fitted mask and physical distancing
    • Wear masks, practice physical distancing, and adhere to other prevention measures when visiting with unvaccinated people who are at increased risk for severe COVID-19 disease or who have an unvaccinated household member who is at increased risk for severe COVID-19 disease
    • Wear masks, maintain physical distance, and practice other prevention measures when visiting with unvaccinated people from multiple households
    • Avoid medium- and large-sized in-person gatherings
    • Get tested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
    • Follow guidance issued by individual employers
    • Follow CDC and health department travel requirements and recommendations
