funny how guys like Gordon, Wiggins, and Tobias Harris have actual value in the NBA market but Spurstalk members start with “They better attach a 1st to that bad contract.” Lol.
    Gordon has a great contract.

Spurs were linked to him as well.

    Adrian Wojnarowski @wojespn

Free agent F Alize Johnson is signing a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets, pending passing of protocols, sources tell ESPN.

Media bias at it's finest. If the Spurs had Lowry and he supposedly wanted to sign with the Heat, who had the cap space to sign him outright in the offseason, they'd tell us they have no leverage and that at 35, with recent durability issues and slippage, no one should/will give up a significant asset for him and they'll have to accept the pu pu platter of Dragic, Olynyk, Nunn and some minor piece (Okpala, Silva, far off 2nd).

But one of their pets has him, so an aspiring contender should supposedly give up Robinson, a key piece. Unbelievable.

Per NBASupes (the Hawks forum "insider"), Collins is closer to a lock to stay and that The Ringer is full of bull similar to Clutch Points

As much as Collins makes sense, and as much as you would do Walker and 1st for him - you have to compare what their next contract will be.

I wouldn't trade Walker for him if it was my choice. I'd still like to give him another year or two to see if he can put it all together consistently.

Even if they were the same quality player, which they not as Collins is the better, more consistent, while maintaining upside. It's a position of need for the Spurs. But Collins would want and get a 100m contract, while Walker will be under 60

    Out for the season. Wow.

Lonnie's been having wrist issues. Good thing he's fine.
Ehh, LaMelo's injury looks to have been a one-time fracture thing (if he's broken his scaphoid or trapecius like I did, it'll be really eerie...), whilst wrist problems that are recurrent are much, much more worrisome in the medium and long-term. I'm not saying Lonnie has these issues or close, so far I at least haven't heard any reports or interviews mentioning it, it might just be soreness or something. But fractures that heal correctly (and with an NBA player's access to medical aid, they mostly do) are usually non-issues long-term.

One pick and one young player for collins. Seems doable if we really want it
I wouldn't give that up so we can overpay him. Much rather overpay him in the offseason and if he doesn't sign here make a run at somebody else.

Thinking Gordon is one of those who looks average now but in a few years and the right system may look good. I was baffled the spurs were rumored to pursuing Randle, Clarkson and Rozier back when they were known as inefficient chuckers and look where they are now. Randle is an all star and Rozier/Clarkson had a big jump in efficiency. Another way to improve is to get these undervalued guys and put them in a better position and role.

Better than the offseason when the Spurs were "aggressively pursuing trades" just to end up running it back.

    • The most interesting Bull to watch this week might be Lauri Markkanen. He is enjoying the best shooting season of his career, but the rest of his game has plateaued. (He's still just 23.) Do the Bulls want to pay him in restricted free agency this summer? Are they worried about an offer sheet from a youngish team like the San Antonio Spurs with cap room?

Spurs have been awful in free agency and trades. They are paralyzed with no direction.

Not expecting much. I will say, if they weren’t at least heavily shopping lma, ddr, Rudy and Mills and then don’t re-sign them it’s a colossal failure.

I don’t want those guys re signed but I would at least understand the logic of not trading them if your plan is to bring them back. But if you are going to let them walk to get nothing out of + asset players is just gross mis managing of a small market team.

Let’s see what they do by THU.

Wiggins doesn’t. Harris is on a bad, long contract that expires long after his athleticism. Gordon, a former top 3 pick, extended for about what our late first rounders did, and his team is now ready to move on. None of them are a bargain.
Harris’ contract sucks, but he’s been good this year. Positive impact with or without Embiid/Simmons. Contract ends when he’s 32 so not THAT bad. Philly was forced into a corner to pay him the max after going all in with Butler and him via trade.

Wiggins and Gordon are not positive impact players. I’m surprised teams are so intrigued by Gordon. (On edit ... it must be the contract, as only one year beyond this at $20mm).

Yeah, I agree with that. Complete inaction is super risky, or mismanagement, as you say. They have to have a plan based on priorities and contingencies and pursue that.

On a tangent, contrary to most, I'm not totally down on Brian Wright. The Morris maneuver showed some creativity and balls, unfortunately it completely exploded in our face for reasons that weren't his fault as far as I can tell. The Demarre disaster confuses me still as far as what the happened, and somewhat makes me wonder if Wright was making moves boldly without the blessing of Pop's opinion. Seems outlandish, but the situation in the end was ridiculous, so something didn't jive.

His contract was front loaded. 16mm next year. He is young, insanely athletic and has shown
signs of All-Star level 2 way capability. There are intangibles that advanced stats don’t take into consideration. He has been rotting in Orlando, used out of position and been in the NBA trade rumour mill for 2 years. His playing time has at times been very inconsistent. There should be an adjustment factor for anyone who plays for the Magic (and actually somewhat excels) for these stats nerds, whom, themselves never actually played organized ball. Will help them better and more accurately assess talent.
