as much as I wanted the spurs to make some deals for draft picks or to improve the team, this years been tough on businesses. It makes sense for the spurs to save some money

Blame that on them too, tbh...DeJounte can barely dribble a basketball, Derrick hangs his head and cries every time he misses a shot, and Lonnie plays like a huge pussy 80% of the time. Their fault for digging in more and investing in guys that arent ceiling raisers instead of trying to be compe ive and trade them to improve the team long term. But we all know PATFO care more about Spurs culture than actually winning. They have their 5 rings, they dont give a about winning anymore

at blaming role players drafted outside the lottery for not being superstars. No player selected after 15th pick has ever been an MVP. PATFO wanted this. They never picked a direction after Kawhi wanted out. They wanted to rebuild but still compete. You can't have your cake and eat it too. In order to completely rebuild, you need REAL talent infusion. You're not gonna get a franchise player without a top ten pick. Pop doesn't want to tank so here's the consequences. You have a treadmill team that's neither good enough to contend or bad enough to draft the best talent.

Current rebuild system is fine, but you need some ruthlessness instead of keeping the likes of Patty.
Players who have value, but only if you're contending.

Picks in mid-late lottery are good enough.
Jokic was a second rounder.

It's all about competence of the front office.
If you're incompetent, picks don't matter (see Wolves, Kings or Knicks).

Unfortunately, our front office is incompetent. At least when it comes to trades. Drafting is still good.
