Loophole would be, don't list players as out but still don't play them, when asked why... "we didn't play them due to match ups"

Loophole would be mysterious calf injury that lasts two days.
This is such a bull rule. What if Pop just sit DeMar, Patty and Jak on the bench and just never subbed them in? What if he just says "I gave all of them DNP's coach's decision, tactical decision". Who the is Silver to tell a coach who should or shouldn't play?
Also what if DeRozan just says "I have a headache". How do you disprove that ? This is just such a re ed rule without a single leg to stand on.
This is one of those rules that's so easy to get around, and it seems to me that rather than potentially incurring fines or lectures from the league, it would just make more sense to invoke a generic issue as the reason for sitting someone. Instead of saying "rest" or "load management," say something like "Player X experienced tightness in his lower back during practice" or "Player Z had abdominal pain after eating a room service meal, and we're concerned he might have food poisoning." This is, after all, the same league that says players who flop will be fined, and then goes entire seasons without issuing a single flopping fine, even though the rest of us get a good laugh watching youtube videos with literally dozens & dozens of clear and obvious flops.
Next time pop wants to rest players he should just start those players. Immediately foul and pull those guys. Would be a real FU to that idiot silver
exactly. It’s just dumb all the way around
I feel like Pop and the Spurs know the rules about resting well enough to cir vent them if needed.
The more I think about it, I feel like this was an intentional slight to the schedule makers and the fine was fully expected. Like others have said...they could have easily made up bull reasons instead of just listing it as "rest"
That would mess with the averages of players....essentially a game played with no stats to show for it. I wouldn't blame them for not being on board with that plan.

Pop said he wasn't surprised NBA fined Spurs $25K for resting DeRozan, Poeltl & Mills vs. Suns. He also indicated he had no regrets, saying, "we needed to rest them, so we rested them... we know best what our players need, but I understand the league's point of view.”
My thoughts exactly. Pop's unhappy with the league for the compressed schedule. Last year they didn't make teams even up the games played before determining the bubble invites. Why not just do that this year and base seeding on winning percentage? Same situation...games canceled due to Covid.
What's worse is the Spurs missed out on the play in game because they played 1 less game than Portland and Memphis.
