I mean, honestly, you know almost all the money from corruption ends up in US banks or Switzerland (South American officials, FIFA, etc) because crooks don't trust other countries and large US banks have a long history of laundering money.

I don't think it's much different with Coinbase, especially given the amount of crypto exchanges that have committed fraud by claiming they were hacked, etc.

Again, I have not heard these are state-sponsored hackers, which makes this much more plausible.

As we type, Scotland is looking into the purchase of two golf courses by Donald Trump using Russian money. Trump's son said this is how they bought in when questioned why it was not a loan, basically cash. Scotland has money laundering laws and may look more closely into this. Both investments are failing of course (no pun intended), and other interests may want that real estate in Scotland. I think one course is used for the British Open some years.
