Meh we were fans of Bowen and Horry. I would have loved to have this year's version of Beverley on the early to mid 2010s Spurs.
Bowen and Horry had some questionable moments, but Pat Bev is on a completely other level. Dude is nothing but a professional nuisance, and showed last night that he can dish it out but can't take it.

It's an insult to Bruce and Robert to compare them to Beverly. Bowen, in particular, got under guys skin just by playing actual hard-nose defense, not chirping in their ear all game.

Bruce also got under guy's skin by sliding under them on jump shots so they'd land on his foot and turn their ankles. Stop pretending like he wasn't every bit as dirty as Beverley. And Horry was just smart enough to pull that kind of to take some air out of the Suns' sails after a huge Game 4 win, not when they were minutes from elimination down 20 with nothing they could do to change anything like Beverley pulled. Did you forget the time Horry went and slapped David Robinson in the nuts intentionally in the 2003 series? I think it was Game 2. Or how Rob used to always try to throw the ball off Duncan's when trying to "save" the ball from going out?

I like Beverley. That guy is a hardass who plays physical defense and intimidates his opponents and works hard to stay in front of his man. He has glue guy written all over him and if the Spurs were contenders I would want him so badly on the roster.

Who cares about chirping in peoples' ears all the time? Are we supposed to hate Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Gary Payton, Reggie Miller too since they were constantly running their mouths?

LOL at comparing some of the greatest in NBA history to a guy like Beverly. Chirping was just a small component of their personality and they had the game to back it up.

If the dude wasn't such a pest, he would've been out of the league years ago. His game revolves around being an asshole and hoping it throws people off. Dude acts like he's one of the greats and he's lucky to have an NBA career.

Think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one, bum.

Beverly actively tries to hurt players. You're ed in the head.

So you don't really care about players running their mouths then. I don't see any time Beverley tried to act like he was some kind of star and he's not lucky to have an NBA career, he has earned his way into the league with his defensive effort.

Bev literally told two-time MVP Steph Curry, “You had the last five years, the next five years are mine" when they signed Kawhi and PG...funny because he wasn't saying that before he could hide behind those two. IF the Clippers ever win anything, it's not gonna be on the back of Patrick Beverley.

And let's not forget this little gem:

In the Clippers’ locker room, Patrick Beverley was having some fun with some of the Chase Centre arena staff workers who help tidy up the facility. “Y’all a little different without KD, I see. Uh-huh, y’all cheated long enough. It’s OK. Y’all had a good run. Back to reality"
Yeah, guy talking to the janitors in the locker room. Sounds like a real class act.

Let's not forget banging into Westbrook just after calling a timeout and causing him to tear his meniscus which required multiple surgeries to repair.

In this series alone, Bev "inadvertently" broke Booker's nose, "accidentally" clocked Ayton in the head going up for a shot, and pulled his cheap shot on Chris Paul once he realized his ass was getting sent home.

I don't expect every player to act like Tim Duncan or David Robinson did, but I also don't expect them to act like punkass es either.

That's not playing hard or "being a dog", that's playing reckless and without any regard or respect for your opponent. That is bush league and the NBA would be better off without it.

That's exactly how everyone other than Spurs fans viewed Bruce Bowen. I like how it's the end of the world when Zaza Pachulia slides under Leonard's foot but it was just Vince Carter being a little got complaining when Bruce did the same and injured him. I mean have some self awareness as a Spurs fan. It's like you never saw Bruce knee Nash in the nuts or constantly trying to trip people.

I started off by saying that Bowen had his fair share of questionable moments, and I didn't think those were really cool at the time either. Dude literally Bruce Lee kicked a guy in the face

For that matter, people hate on Harden or Paul for flopping when Manu was one of the innovators of the flop in the NBA.

It's more of a full package thing with me for Beverley. Dude has very few redeeming qualities in my eyes...just one of those guys that would get his ass beat if he tried to play his brand of basketball at Gold's or the Y.

Atlanta trying to make a run at it, but Bucks B-squad is definitely better than the Hawks B-squad.

Hawks got this. Superior three point shooting and better (but still mediocre) basketball IQ.

I mean we aren’t saying Bruce wasn’t a dirty player. If he was playing for another team, good chance I would have hated him. I think Dex’s point is that while he was dirty, his antics after a play were nowhere near as bad as Beverley’s. Beverley is the type to keep running his mouth even after a dirty play. He makes silly remarks like has been said against Curry. I actually think Beverley is more similar to Horry, who also always spoke his mind. The difference is Horry is clutch and a championship level player so he’s earned the right to talk. Beverley is a talentless scrub who is still ringless but also runs his mouth like he’s been there before.

He got a lot of rant here. But I'll take this guy. You want a guy like Beverly to go to battle with. I mean besides DJ, I don't know any Spurs, maybe Eubanks. And every team needs that.
Dude’s got bipolarish tendencies for sure.

I can't think of a time in my nba fandom where there wasn't a team in the finals I was actively rooting against. Quite refreshing.

2019 was probably the worst for me. Hated the Durant Warriors, hated Nephew. Was bittersweet seeing the Warriors finally lose that year but at the benefit of Nephew ugh.

Interesting factoid...of the three teams remaining, there is not a single player who has won a championship before.

Yeah it's great to see after so many Warriors vs LeBron finals series. No LeBron, no Lakers, no Celtics, no big market teams. Say what you will about the injuries to star players happening, but I'm fine with this "watered down" year before the inevitable super teaming gets more out of hand in the future, making everything less compe ive and more predictable.

I’m sure it still not going to prevent other weak ass divas to collude. But at least it’s a breath of fresh air. Spurs have been the monster teams wrecker, breaking the Kobe/Shaq, Banana Boat and almost the Dubs.

Now that the Spurs aren't le contenders anymore, I'm all for parity.

The NBA is such a strong-link sport, though, that it takes all these injuries to create this situation. If all the players were healthy I think Nets/Clippers would have been the most likely Finals matchup.

Nope, it would've been Nets/Lakers. Lakers had injuries to other players outside of AD and a not 100% LeBron. No one can deal with a LeBron/ AD combination, two legit MVP candidates, PG13 is not a legit MVP, he's very inconsistent, Playoff P one minute, Scrub P the next

    100% this.

I hated the Spurs mainly because of Bowen. That guy was dirty as and Pop loved it. Tries to act like a self righteous choir boy but also employed thugs like Bowen.

And when Zaza placed his foot under Kawhi, it was like poetry in motion - all karma. That's how non spur's fans viewed Bowen and his legacy anyway.

Good take, I agree now that you put it that way. I think I underplayed the Lakers' injuries and overplayed PG's performances without Number Two.
