That's exactly how everyone other than Spurs fans viewed Bruce Bowen. I like how it's the end of the world when Zaza Pachulia slides under Leonard's foot but it was just Vince Carter being a little got complaining when Bruce did the same and injured him. I mean have some self awareness as a Spurs fan. It's like you never saw Bruce knee Nash in the nuts or constantly trying to trip people.
    100% this.

I hated the Spurs mainly because of Bowen. That guy was dirty as and Pop loved it. Tries to act like a self righteous choir boy but also employed thugs like Bowen.

And when Zaza placed his foot under Kawhi, it was like poetry in motion - all karma. That's how non spur's fans viewed Bowen and his legacy anyway.
I laughed at this too at the time-- all the non-Spurs basketball sites were like 99% saying oh, NOW you don't like defenders who put their feet under a shooter? or something about karma, but spurstalk was 99% saying it was the greatest injustice in history. I imagine Vince Carter, Ray Allen, Steve Francis, Steve Nash, etc were feeling some schadenfreude that year. Looking just now, I found a 4 year old quote on reddit about it: Kawhi Jesus had to be the sacrificial lamb for the Spurs sins.

Bruce also got under guy's skin by sliding under them on jump shots so they'd land on his foot and turn their ankles. Stop pretending like he wasn't every bit as dirty as Beverley. And Horry was just smart enough to pull that kind of to take some air out of the Suns' sails after a huge Game 4 win, not when they were minutes from elimination down 20 with nothing they could do to change anything like Beverley pulled. Did you forget the time Horry went and slapped David Robinson in the nuts intentionally in the 2003 series? I think it was Game 2. Or how Rob used to always try to throw the ball off Duncan's when trying to "save" the ball from going out?

I like Beverley. That guy is a hardass who plays physical defense and intimidates his opponents and works hard to stay in front of his man. He has glue guy written all over him and if the Spurs were contenders I would want him so badly on the roster.

Who cares about chirping in peoples' ears all the time? Are we supposed to hate Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Gary Payton, Reggie Miller too since they were constantly running their mouths?
bruce did get under players feet and he actually injured ray allen in one playoff series, but that move wasn't unique to him and it wasn't outside the rules at the time. of course, one could argue that he had something to do with it. that being said, bowen wasn't anywhere near as annoying as beverly is because beverly makes that part of his game on purpose-he reminds me more of rodman in that regard. i also think that in today's age of hyper media and sports talk, had the antics of a McHale, the Bad Boys, Pippen and Jordan, Bird and so on been on full display, that there would have been more backlash. just look at the criticism that jordan took after his do entary: this was just people looking back and saying "you know, jordan was kind of a prick after all". the difference is that jordan was jordan and beverly is more or less a one-trick pony.

Best part is we called it Classball.

Don't get me wrong, I ing hate Patrick Beverley because he plays dirty and intimidates on the threat of him pulling some crap and causing injury when he's guarding the other team's star player, but I would want him on the Spurs in a second if they were actually a team capable of making a deep playoff run. Obviously would be a waste on this garbage lottery roster though.

Might as well have called it the Bowen rule once it got officially outlawed though. I could imagine a lot of fans were just as annoyed by Bruce's 'who me?' act as they are with Beverley embracing his reputation. Beverley isn't the defender Bowen was but he's still pretty damn good and man I'd love that guy if I was a Clipper fan.

Bruce is pretty universally disliked on reddit (outside of the Spurs sub obviously) so you're not wrong...

Wow.... Holiday, Middleton, & co will have a ton of confidence going forward if they finish off the Hawks without Giannis. If the Bucks wins tonight, game one of the finals in on Tuesday night, July 6th. Up 14 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd....

Giannis over there supporting his team on the bench. Like a star player should be doing when he’s injured.

I know injuries happened but did most people actually expect either of those teams to be in the finals this year? Pretty crazy.

Seems like the Deer have 100 offensive rebounds, but Atlanta leads 12 -11.
