And they called the foul towards the end when the Suns were trying to pressure and not foul. So weird and awful. On a tangent, but I wonder if the star treatment by the refs plays a role in Team USA sucking so far. Are they used to the kid gloves treatment and star calls they get in the NBA?

Seriously, even the announcers were running out of excuses for all the bad calls and just straight up started calling out the refs. There were bad calls going both directions.

I seriously don't understand how that can be put on display on national television and the NBA still doesn't feel the need to do anything about it.

This is the result of promoting players over the actual game. Star calls, promoting flopping. And probably having too many regular season games. It’s a mess of a product.

Sometimes it feels like the game has just become "see who can fool the refs the most"

Some random musings from a guy that started watching the NBA Finals in the 1970's when Wes Unseld was throwing those crazy outlet passes:

    - Game 5 has the makings of a classic. This one reminds me of the Spurs/Pistons in 2005. Milwaukee might pull off the road win, but, it will not be easy. Might take a miracle. Or two.
    - The role players are playing much better at home, the stars, too. It will interesting to see if the Bucks can bring some of their momentum to Phoenix.
    - It's odd seeing two unseasoned champions in the Finals. The Bucks won game 4 with that pounding the rock mentality and some bone-headed plays by the Suns.
    - Middleton had the quietest 40 point Finals performance I have ever witnessed. Very Duncan-esque.
    - The Bucks are killing the Suns on the offensive boards. If they do that 2 more times, it's over.
    - What happened to Deandre Ayton? He disappeared on the road.
    - Finally playing to packed houses might take some getting used to after the bubble and a season of empty to half-empty arenas.

On the players part, for sure. But the refs don’t seem to have a problem with the flopping, either. Or maybe it’s all part of their overly complicated training I assume they get as refs for how to call games. I imagine it’s constant internal memos and other overly complicated guidelines coming from the top as far as what to enforce or not. Just calling the game equally seems impossible for them, I assume from how they are trained.

I think the biggest issue is the consistency. Sometimes they will call the slightest touch a foul, other times guys will mug another player and there is no whistle. It seems to change from game to game, and sometimes even quarter to quarter. They'll let them play physical for three quarters then all of a sudden its a tweet-fest.

I know the playoffs are expected to be more physical, but last night Breen made the point that guys get used to getting some calls in the regular season, then suddenly it changes in the playoffs. That shouldn't be the case. This leads to a lot of players complaining which leads to fans complaining and it just is a bad look overall.

I know missed calls are going to happen and they can't call every touch a foul (nor should they), but just call the game one way and stop handing out this "star treatment". When everybody in the building can see a blown call except the three guys expected to make the call, that's a problem.

    Nice thoughts.

Ayton's success appears to depend on how good Chris Paul is. Without Paul delivering him the ball in easy ways, he goes back to normal.

Everyone's talking about the refs swallowing their whistles for the intentional foul on Holiday-- and that makes sense-- but a minute later Booker committed another foul and he himself walked off the court assuming he'd fouled out, only to realize-- once again-- he hadn't.

    I’m psyched for tonight’s gm 5!

The Suns need to have a great performance or two from their stars and a role player needs to answer the call.
Barring a complete disaster for the Bucks, this is a must-win for the Suns.
Bucks win Gm 5, it’s over.

Jrue Holiday is due for a big scoring night. If that happens, Suns are in trouble.

If Chris Paul gets it going again and can score and distribute, Suns could roll. That’s a big if.

Booker needs to wise up to the fact that teams are attacking his foul prone defense.

The big if for the Bucks is how much momentum and confidence will transfer to a very hostile arena.

Chris Paul playing like crap. When he's on he spoonfeeds easy buckets to Ayton the same way he used to for Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan.

I don't think Chris Paul's hand is right. Look at how he was unable to control his dribble in Game 4 and he'd be doing things you'd never see him doing normally like passing the ball to Ayton at the three point line early in a possession so he didn't have to handle it. Seeing that I thought Game 4 was a must win for the Suns given the game Booker had through the first three quarters, because with Paul at 30-40% I think Milwaukee is a much better team and taking 1 of 3 to close the series would have been difficult and what a disaster to waste Booker's big game. I hope I'm wrong and Game 4 wasn't about Paul's hand, but it really looked like it was and if that's the case it's hard not to see Milwaukee pulling off the backdoor sweep. Still rooting for CP3 and Monty Williams to be holding Larry at the end though.

Booker checked out mentally early in the fourth when he blew up at the ref for calling a ball off Booker when it touched PJ Tucker last. Booker could never let go of that yelling at the refs and then committed that moronic fifth foul right after, started kicking on the bench, came back in with 6 minutes left and committed those moronic sixth and seventh fouls. Really disappointed in how thin the guy's skin was in Game 4, especially after how ridiculous he was playing through quarters 1-3. He really let the Suns down. If he could have kept his emotions in check he probably would have guided them to a season saving road win.
