Are we sure Aminu isn’t better though?

not sure at all. but it doesnt matter who might be a better player today. this team isnt winning. aminu is on the downside of his career, while KBP can only get better and potentially be a role player for several seasons. the latter should have more value to a rebuilding team. aminu's most obvious source of value comes from him being on a 10 mil expiring deal

The filler would likely be players we are receiving from Chicago for DeRozan. Feels like we'd be stealing from our DeRozan haul to land Lauri.

Spurs should flip Young for a pick between now and trade deadline, but his value will rise as we approach deadline. I'm hopeful they can get a late first for him in February.

Can the Spurs already trade the players that they just received? Sorry I’m not so familiar with trade rules and limitations. So in essence, they can just collect these assets (and picks) and reroute them? Thanks.
Not an expert in nba trade rules and won’t claim to be. There’s a lot of smart posters on here that do have pretty good knowledge on that though. After saying all that, I believe that we can trade both young and aminu but I have heard that trading them both as part of the same trade package might be against the rules

Just to review how things stand...

At the moment, the active roster is 9.

    7 acquisitions are pending.

That doesn’t count Primo, who is a guaranteed contract.

It also doesn’t count Wieskamp or Diop.

That’s 19 so somebody is going someplace.
Those numbers would suggest that 2 large trades might be happening. By large I mean multiple players not necessarily for star players

Aminu and Young can't be re-packaged for a few weeks but assuming that time has passed, does anyone see 3 for 1 roster consolidation trades the Spurs could execute?

Aminu’s $10mm expiring deal combined with Young being on an expiring deal can make things very interesting for the Spurs at the deadline. I like KDB but you always keep the expiring deal vs. buying it out because of what it can bring you back. KDB is nice but not that special.

Need to canvas who the expiring deals are but I think Young could be worth a late first on his own.

With the Hornets offering Oubre that deal, does anyone even have 15M+ in space for Lauri at this point? Seems like he may end up taking an MLE deal

That’s basically my lingering question for the FO: what’s the next move? Personally, I hope it isn’t Laurie. I’m happy to see how well Jock can shoot but with more overall production and less baggage and bloated contract of Laurie. I know, different positions, but I don’t care. Laurie seems like frustration to me. I’d rather see Luka play. But we’ll see what the FO does.

The Spurs are going to trade, or waive, somebody before the season begins. Or buy them out (oh jeez. Sorry I mentioned that. DeMarre Carroll is still on the books, I believe, for one last year. But not on the roster, at least)

A multiplayer trade would be the most direct way to reduce the roster, but then, how many teams have roster spots to take multiple players, at this point? I have no idea, and there are draft picks to sign, all around the league, in addition to the vets being traded. Only thing I’m certain of is that the people running the spreadsheets are working overtime.

Um, doubt it. If LMA is willing to sign for the vet min again, like he did with the Nets, lots of teams would be interested.

He would fit right in with the Lakers. Heck might not even increase their average age.

the problem i see with LMA is that teams are going to balk at his medical history. even with just the vet min at stake, LMA is going to have to overcome that very legitimate concern.

Yes, he’ll have to get league clearance because of the heart condition. It’s against NBA rules for a player to die during a game. Or even in practice, probably.

But if he can get clearance, there will be teams who would open a roster spot for him. The NBA makes it financially attractive to sign vets of long service, for one thing, and also he’s a “name.”

It would be a touching moment if he can get that twenty-thousandth point, and he can wave to the crowd, and everyone cheer. I don’t mean with the Spurs tho.

There was a 6:01pm beginning to free agency negotiations, but the signing period began at 12:01pm (to have at least an afternoon available before the weekend.)
