I hope you’re right but I don’t see Abbott getting the blame next year if COVID ravages Texas. Right now 2022 is gonna be ugly for Dems unless a lot changes.
Similar to the POTUS elections, the big cities will all vote dem while the bible belt hicks vote

Good thing "Dufresne" escaped back then and not now. 500 yards of COVID-19 laced do-do woulda been a bridge too far.

Masks will still be required in all Austin ISD schools and facilities regardless of the latest Texas Supreme Court ruling, which upheld Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order banning mask mandates in public schools.

Why it matters: The City of Austin and Travis County have ordered masks be worn in all public buildings and schools to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Austin ISD is complying with that order and will keep the district’s mask requirement.

Republicans run for office on a platform of "government is bad" and prove it when they get elected.

Raw power > any concept of the common good

They’re fighting to fortify their trifecta control of state government despite a rapidly diversifying electorate, and to establish themselves as the bastion of arch-conservatism in the United States. Victory seems imminent, at least in the upcoming election cycle, if not in the years thereafter. But the people of Texas — Republican, independent, and Democrat — have become collateral damage. Because in having dedicated themselves to battle, Texas Republicans have forgotten how to govern.

the large number of cases leads to large absolute numbers of outlier outcomes. masking and vaccines would mitigate that, and are much cheaper than monoclonal antibodies.

As of Sunday, Texas leads the country with 311 pediatric hospitalizations for confirmed or suspected COVID-19, per HHS data. Florida (204), California (140), Ohio (114), and Georgia (87) round out the top five.
