There’s probably a couple of solid arguments to ding Fauci about, but the ‘flip flopper’ one is the one you would expect from ignorant people that don’t understand science and research of a new disease. He flip flopped because he didn’t want to jump to conclusions on things like unproven drugs? Because the data wasn’t there yet on a number of treatments?
I find the people that criticize him on that are people that wanted to believe on this guy on faith, not science. Same with the criticism about him being on camera. It’s a misunderstanding of his role. He’s not a guy that writes the papers or creates the vaccines or treatments, he’s a person that parses all that and communicates best practices to hopefully inform decisions on what works and what’s junk.
I don’t understand the hatred towards Fauci at all, but I think the woman who Biden picked to run the CDC is a bumbling idiot who’s actively making things worse. The most recent mask guidance the CDC issued was incoherent (not to mention it was based off data that had nothing to do with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) and does nothing but vindicate the anti-vaxxers + makes them getting vaccinated less likely.
Plenty of criticism to go around, but, again, Delta or whatever, we would be in a much better place now as far as deaths and hospitalized if peeps would get their ass vaccinated, and that’s something Fauci always promoted and this administration too (though I’m also with you it’s time to remove the carrot and move on to the stick). It’s getting increasingly clear that we’ll need modified boosters down the road as well to deal with variants, so this whole nonsense discussion about vaxxes needs to come to an end ASAP.
Unfortunately I think Gottlieb is correct that the failure to quickly get vaccinated prior to the delta variant’s emergence means that COVID is going to become an endemic. We have too many re s in this country to ever reach herd immunity, COVID isn’t going to ever go away, it’s just going to mutate into something that’s similar to the common cold that we just need to live with.
