Comparatively, a clip from 2020 shows Pompeo saying that the U.S. has seen the Taliban "working diligently to reduce violence." He adds that the Trump administration "has confidence that the Taliban leadership is working to deliver on its commitments."
The next recent clip from an interview with Fox News shows Pompeo saying, "we never trusted the Taliban." But in 2020, Pompeo said that the Trump administration had "every expectation" that the Taliban would follow through on its commitments under the peace deal.
That's it and that's all.

For those who are too young to remember or weren't paying attention, Judith Miller hyped WMDs in the NYT before the Iraq invasion in 2003. She never admitted her mistake.
But in fairness, maybe it wasn't a mistake if being a courtier to the Bush Administration and the US war machine was her intention.
I will say that I'm proud of Joe Biden for not apologizing for anything because he has done nothing that warrants an apology here. Trump struct the deal to get us out and Biden got us out. The American people want us out and because the corrupt government in Afghanistan was even weaker that we thought -- we had to accelerate the withdrawal and do it under tough cir stances. I do think the military has not given Biden the best advice on some of these operational calls and it's hard to believe so many service members could become casualties given the military knew of the threat that materialized, but Biden has made the right policy decisions and we all know it was always going to be messy.
