I can't remember which thread, but I saw a comment on here saying it's a problem if they can't average 20 as the primary options... While I get what they're saying, and I generally agree, the 2014 team had tony parker leading us in scoring at 16 per game... The thing is there were 6 ppl in double figures that season, and they scored at an efficient clip....

Murray and White shoot enough shots to score 20... Their problem is that they don't get to the line as much as they need to in order to be 20 point scorers... Murray is lucky if he attempts 4 freethrows a game... Neither are particularly good shooters, but they both take the majority of their shots from either mid range or three... And they both (especially Murray... Who is my favorite player, btw) ALWAYS avoid contact on drives... This drives me crazy because avoiding contact on a drive not only means you won't get to the line, but that you will put up a very low percentage shot... This is something so simple to fix (it's mostly a mindset thing), yet years in nobody on the staff tries to make them do it... It seems like the staff is bent on just having them shoot jumpers

Too much bias opinion, White has 12 FGA per game even Steph Curry and James Harden do not has a point to shot ratio for 20 points on 12 FGA, and that is including their free throw points.

ture they need to find ways to get to the line. Murray's jumper hasn't been on so far, but I'm pretty sure he'll be more consistent down the line. His 3-point shot is still non-existant though. White is too streaky from 3. Yes he can hit it occassionally, but he's not efficient enough to be a volume 3-point shooter. I think he could score more if he was a little bit more aggressive looking for his.

Preaching to the choir about free throws. I’ve been saying and saying that Murray’s lack of ability to get to the line is problematic. Him and Lonnie averaged 3 attempts a game last year combined. If he’s not going to be shooting 3s or making them at a decent clip then he needs to figure out a way to get to the line. White is a 4 time a game guy tops. That’s why it’s so important for Pop to get Keldons name out there fast. Bc I see single digit free throws becoming a theme of the year.

If Murray can double his free throw outage and hit the 3 at 33% then there’s the 20 a game right there. The fact that he can’t is why he is struggling. White is and never will be aggressive enough to average 20. I think he’s capable of it but for whatever reason he goes long stretches without shooting the ball.

Morant handles the ball better, is even quicker than Murray, more athletic and can contort his body llike Manu Ginobili ...

He's a 2nd overall pick. Talent gap is enormous compared to Murray who was drafted 29th and very raw coming into the NBA.

Ja Morant was a top 2 pick and had god given talent. Dejounte was the 29th pick and had no true talent outside of showing off in rec games

DM is a defensive player first and foremost, but he doesn't have a reliable shot. He cannot be our top scorer or our clutch player. Right now I don't see any SAS player who is a clutch player at this momment and we need one.

At this point, I am more concerned about their inability to attack the basket and just general ball handling. Seen it before but it was clear tonight. They need to drastically improve their ball handling if they are ever going to be anything more than they are right now.

Derrick could barely manipulate the ball in the presence of an opponent tonight. I didn't realize how bad it was before.

It ultimately doesn't matter because this season is not for us to even be thinking about contending, but man this realization has me shook.

We need a point guard that can:

    1) Simply dribble and move for effective penetration and

    2) See the next play before it happens.

I love Derrick's and Dejounte's defense but their point guard play involving getting others easy shots and managing the game is bad.

The handles are shaky and it is stifling, particularly late in games.

Ja's athletic ability is elite. He's probably the most athletic PG in the league. He has a great first step, and has great hang time, and great ball handling skills. He can also hit 3's.
